Dot's Vocabulary

Feb 23, 2009 21:59

After 13 months of me doing it almost daily, Dot finally did the sign for "milk" today.  I think she knows what it means, although she hasn't yet asked for milk.

Other signs she knows:

Eat/Hungry = doesn't do it often, though
More = does it ALL the time, sometimes for "more" but I often think she thinks it means "I want something, and it's your job to read my mind and figure out what it is"
Change = she does this one all on her own to let us know she needs a diaper change
Baby = how cute is that?
Bye-bye = She even starts waving when I put on my coat

She can also point at stuff that she wants to touch or see more closely (which, really, means she wants to touch it).

Words she says:

Cat = OMG, she says "cat" all day, every day, and always with great enthusiasm.  She wakes up in the morning, rolls over and says "cat!"  She pops off the boob to look at me and say "cat!"  She looks out the window and says "cat!" even if there aren't any out there.  It is the only topic of conversation, as far as Dot is concerned.
Kitty = Occasionally this word will follow "cat."
Dog = She more or less figured this one out on her own, as she's not really even around dogs that often.
Mama = She is just starting to mimic me saying "mama," but she doesn't get the meaning yet.

Words she understands:

Ear
Belly button
Eyebrow
No
(And of course, those she can say or sign)

She has also just started to enjoy books.  She will bring a book and climb up into our laps to have us read it.  She has a surprisingly long attention span for this, some of which may be due to the "peekaboo" nature of some of the books.

Other new things include kicking a ball.
