What to do? careerwise

Well, Billy and I are thinking of taking a bit of a leap. He is wanting to be his own boss which I have every reason to believe that he can do. He is creating a plan for what steps he needs to take to make that happen. However, this may also, likely will, include me turning my sewing hobby into my profession. It will, at the very least, required ( Read more... )

Pretty good. I've been doing that with the Orion Sewing Slaves-star trek themed sewing group that I'm part of.

You want shirts and other basic clothing, I'm good to go as long as I have a pattern. Sadly, I have so much to learn about design.

The same link I sent Krista too. It's written by Margo Anderson, who has went on and created a line of faboo Elizabethan clothing patterns. (Faboo meaning "yeah they historically accurate!")

She has a nice clear headed way of explaining the ins and outs of a sewing business. I don't know if you'd want to add on the design part, but covering expenses and getting some profit is a good thing.

Thanks! With costuming, a certain amount of design is going to be required, I know, but that is my biggest gap right now. Luckily with the kind of costuming that I want to do, historic isn't the problem so much as outlandish would be. Though, there is some business to be made in historical outfitting. Actually one of the sewing girls that I've been working with did reinactment clothing with another lady a while back.....hmmmm....definately food for though here. Thanks!

Dont forget the amazon drygoods catalog for awesome patterns you can use and even use as starters to create new designs. Thats a wonderful business to start, especially when youve got a little one, so you can keep an eye on her and get business accomplished all at once. My cousin was thinking of going on the road traveling and selling swords at renfaires-maybe he(or anyone you know who does faires) could pimp your stuff as well ( ... )

Thanks! I definately like cottage industry and personaly sustainablity. Don't worry about the paint, hon'. It's one of those things. You get to it, great. You can't, and I still appreciate the thought. I wish more people were neighborly. It's not just nice, it's practical. Anywho, speaking of not feeling great. I need to hit the water and couch for a bit.
