Title: Helping hands
Characters: Jack/Ianto
Written for day 8 for redismycolour
Summary: Every year without fail, the path outside Ianto's flat would freeze over.

***

Every year without fail, the path outside Ianto's flat would freeze over and of course, his council did nothing about it as it was a rarely used path save the three tenants in his road. Every day, Ianto would walk slowly, huddling against the harsh breath of wind, focussing on keeping his balance over the precarious ice to save himself from injury. Slowly, but surely Ianto would be able to get from his flat and into his car without falling over before making his way to the Hub still two hours ahead of the rest of the team.

When Jack came back, he stayed over at Ianto's flat. In the morning Ianto watched Jack walking confidently over the ice, conquering it like everything else he did leaving Ianto to metaphorically crawl behind him. Ianto was too much of a man to call out for Jack to wait up, so he quickened his step to catch up with his Captain, not wanting Jack to have to wait at the other end.

A wrong step, a loud whoosh of air escaping his lungs as Ianto crashed to the floor and he was laid flat on his back, the cold seeping through his suit and chilling Ianto to the bones.

Out of the corner of his eye, Ianto saw Jack gracefully make his way over, holding his large hand to the young man. Their hands interlinked, Ianto managed to get to his feet without further embarrassment.

“I've got you,” Jack whispered, his eyes meeting Ianto's, fingers warming Ianto's own cold ones.

And those three words said so much more than I love you ever could.
