day in the doctor's office, yom chest hair

so yesterday I went to the hospital with mom. I had to wake up at 7:40. not fun two days after you graduate. anyway I was going in to see a hysterectomy as well as a day in the life of mom. I started taking the notes rom the minute I got into the car. about everything. the procedure, names of doctors that mom likes, definitions of hard medical terms. mom thought it was funny. anyway. I got into some scrubs and it was pretty cool. I was allowed to bring two books into the OR. how many people can do that. to be fair one of them was a notebook. anyway a hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus. soetimes the ovaries are removed as well since if they cannot function they are only a risk for ovarian cancer. anyway, it was really odd watching the surgery. first of all, I didn't think about the nudity level of the patient. but then suddenly she's naked and being prepped and I felt that as a nondoctor/medical student that I had no right to look at her naked. so I averted my eyes and sort of slunk to the side. after she was prepped it became simply awesome. it was sort of beautiful. the contrasting colors were amazing. when they finally pulled the uterus out of the body cavity it was huge. the uterus is normally supposed to be fist sized. hes was the size of a football with several tumors growing out of it. it was so insane that the doctors stopped to take a picture of it for the patient. after they removed it they took about 45 minutes to remove it from the body. after all excessive bleeding is bad. and another 45 minutes to sew her back up. they were so thorough. I was amazed. not a bit of the cut was left opened. all in all it was very cool. after that I paraded around a little bit as mom showed me off. everyone seemed to have something nice to say. we had a luncheon provided by some drug company. there was this woman there who felt like such a feminist that I was almost intimidated. after that I chilled for a few hours in mom's office. one problem. her computer allowed nothing. no web videos of ultimate showdown or juggernaut and no games. both were banned somehow. after that we went on a tour of the rest of the hospital. I saw all the labor rooms including the birthing sauna. very cool. then we went to the pre-me area they were so tiny. suddenly a new one came in. only 29 weeks(4 months) old. so tiny. smaller than the uterus I saw that morning. the father was anxiously watching as they performed all the tests and prepared an incubator. the baby looked healthy though, so I have faith that it will be fine. I even praye for it a little bit. I didn't have the courage to talk to the father though. after that mom's friend mishra came over to see me. and for a woman who's never spoken to me in my life she was really excited. wanted to take me out to lunch and stuff. I thought it was really sweet. so she left and we went home soon afterwards. last night all my dreams came true. I found a chesthair. yay!! true, its less than a centimeter in length, but its black and will grow (I hope). I have decided to start including a new section to this journal. I will write down all new books that I am reading.

Books: enchantment by orson scott card. its about a grad student who travels back to ancient russia and wakes sleeping beauty. its really good. in the past 48 hours I also finished a separate peace by knowles and critters by A B C Whipple.
