It only took us five years, but yesterday, we finally started getting rid of the boxes in the spare room that have been there since we moved in. The impetus for our long-awaited clean-up? Our books were getting too unruly, so a few weeks back we bought some new bookcases from Ikea. One of them is now used to store all our DVDs - the other bookcase laid forlorn in it's box, leaning up against the wall at the bottom of the stairs. It had been there for about two weeks so yesterday I constructed it. And we needed to move the spare room boxes (which has been there so long they now counted as tenants and were paying rent) in order to fit the second bookcase in the spare room.
So you see, inaction piled upon inaction finally leads to productivity. For a few hours anyway. Now we have storage for all our DVDs, all our computer games downstairs (the others still hide in our bedroom wardrobe like a red-headed stepchild) and all of our books. As Liz says, we now have enough book storage space to finally organise our books into some sort of order. At the moment, most of the Stephen Kings are together, as are the Patricia Cornwells and the Terry Pratchetts, but other than that, there's really no order. Most of my graphic novels and trade paperbacks are in the dining room (that's just logic... MORON logic!) with a few in the spare room. Most of our new books are also in the existing bookcases in the spare room - they just tend to end up there.
