2021 Subaru Forester - rotated tires

Nov 12, 2023 13:07

Rotated the tires. Fronts == > back axle. Backs == > front axle.

Odometer: 18+k miles.

Never had rotated the tires before. I should have been more conscientious about doing regular tire rotations at each oil change.

The front axle tires had abnormal and uneven tire wear. The inside edges of both front tires have more wear than the center or outside edges.

The back axle tires had normal and even tire wear.

So, NOTE TO SELF: do tire rotations at every oil change interval.
Brake pads

The front and rear brake pads seem to have 3mm or so of pad remaining. Likely will have to put new brake pads at 30k miles or so.
Might manually adjust the front axle tire alignments

I may even do a manual adjustment of the front alignment, and move the anchor location of the front struts where they join the frame, about 2mm outward.

But, to be fair: Will have to see if it remains a problem once I start being "good" about rotating the tires every oil chg.

(I remember having to do something similar on my 1992 Mustang GT, as it also used to wear out the inside front tires too fast. For it, I had to use a round file to grind away about 2mm of channel to get the front strut placement out, so afterward the front tires wore out more evenly.)
