The 32" non-HD Philips CRT TV we bought about 15yrs ago, is finally starting to die.
The screen is showing banding/random flickering, and loss of 'white' level (the screen will get dim, and the colors will seem strong, but as if the white-level had been severely reduced).
From my measure that 'something should last at least 10yrs', this TV was excellent! We've been able to keep it a useful TV because it's main use since my country switched off analog TV broadcasts, has been to watch DVDs and shows via Netflix via our Wii.
But now it is time to replace it
Modern TV screen layout:
The ratio of the vertical screen size to the diagonal measurement is 2:1
Meaning: a 20" diagonal TV has a vertical screen height of 10"
The old TV has a vertical screen size of 16", so will need to get a 32" diagonal modern HD TV to replace it and have the screen hight be the same.
Desired size by wife: 48" diagonal, wall mount flat screen HD TV, so it can be out-of-reach of the kids touching it.
Now time to do some consumer reports googling to see what recommendations they have for TVs in the 32" to 48" category. Desired features: composite AUX input for our Wii.
