Today was all about stimulating the economy!
miss_swamp graciously agreed to help us evaluate carseats; that and clothes are the two things we absolutely need to have on hand in the event of a last-minute placement. We looked around and settled on one that snaps right into a stroller that also doubles as a regular stroller without the infant seat in it. Naturally
southplains and I gravitated to the most expensive thing in the store, sigh. Apparently we have excellent taste. Also picked up a few other supplies for what I'm calling the Trapped-in-Portland bag: formula, bottles, diapers, and wipes (basically, care for Input and Output).
miss_swamp gave us a big sack of onesies (we should trade a couple out for sleepers the next time we go over), so clothes are covered, and she's promised us her Moses basket that will work for sleeping in for the first week or so without having to haul a Pack-n-Play all the way to Oregon and back (our eyes are on something like
this that doubles as a bassinet and changing table; the less baby-specific furniture we have to buy the better, I figure). That and some cheap burp clothes (and we can always just demote some old dishrags for that) and we're good to go for the first couple weeks of babydom. I also like the look of the wicker baskets they have at Ikea; I might buy one of those for toys and one for diaper supplies, but all that is going to wait until there are signs of an actual baby on the way. (We also got a hard drive at Fry's so Ben can back things up. It's weird to think in terms of terabytes; I remember when a one-gig drive was a lot.) Then I ate way too much kaiten sushi and now I'm home and planning on a lazy evening with a book and possibly tea if I get ambitious.
