news update

I have been asked by my lawyer to take a few days off from interviews while the board evaluates the media circus this has become.  I've gotten notes from britain, as well as all over the states, supporting me.  The only ones who are not are locals.  Strange/.  However there has been an enormous outpouring of support from the parents of my students and my former students wondering why I am being held to such a stringent standard when other teachers are showing r rated movies with much worse language.

The ACLU is investigating my right to free speech regarding the article in Teaching Tolerance and the date of the hearing was moved back due to our one act team competition being the day of the original hearing.  I am still on the verge of losing my job.  I am still believing that showing that video was NOT a mistake, but showing it with the language was.  I'll admit that.  I should have viewed it first and bleeped out the bad words.  Gay bashing is NOT tolerable anywhere.

Going away for a few days to clear my head, go fishing take pictures and avoid the media.  Right now it appears the Atlanta papers, the local papers and even the New York Times might be interested in this story.  For the board to go against the Superintendents suggestion would be a huge question in confidence.  If this were Europe, they would be calling for a vote of confidence to remove him, if that is what they do.  I doubt that will happen.

What bothers me most is the kids are losing valuable learning time fighting over this.  The Principal has orders he must follow to protect these kids and I am doing everything I can to stop the silliness of teenage drama.  I want my job back, but I want the kids to learn more than I want this job.  I am not being allowed to view my show, because it is on campus and I cannot go there because of the leave of absence.

I will survive this, I always do survive these things.  Right now we have hope for a settlement before the hearing because a hearing would become a media circus.  This town needs to be seen for all the growth we have made, not for the problems we have.

blessings,

dix
