She imagined that most of her sisters took comfort from an abundance of their element--at least when it was not being destructive.  And, to some degree, she did as well.  Swimming, even just soaking in a bath, revived her.  A dip in a lake or ocean could heal her body, mind, and soul.

But one expression of her element, of who she was, only brought about melancholy.

As a child, she’d loved the snow.  Even long after she’d first transformed into Sailor Mercury, she had taken solace in the blanket of crystallized water that occasionally covered the earth.

And then her memories returned.

She had been walking home during the first snowfall of the year.  As she watched the few fragile flakes trying to survive as they landed on the various surfaces, she smiled.  In a moment of childish giddiness, that would not have surprised those who knew her best, she threw out her arms and turned her face towards the sky, delighting in the caress of the flakes.

Closing her eyes, Ami had giggled softly, memories of past winters and snow falls flitting through her thoughts.  It was then that vague memories of green eyes and strawberry-blonde hair took specific form.

Since that day, snow had been bitter sweet.  She had come to treasure the memories, her own experiences with Chaos enough for her to know that it would feed on any vulnerabilities and even truth could fuel it.  Ami did wish that things had gone differently, but she also knew there was little use in dwelling upon the past.

Despite the depth of loneliness that encompassed her, Ami still felt drawn to the snow.

So it was that she had made her way into the snow covered field, when most adults huddled inside for warmth and watched through windows.  Desiring silence, she wandered away from the children who played.  When finally the only sound she heard was the crunch of snow beneath her feet and swish of her skirts, she stopped.

Tears traced down her cheek as she thought of other times, felt the piercing loneliness.  Eventually, she sunk into the snow, the wetness and cold through her clothing not bothering the Senshi of water and ice.

Absorbed in memories and feelings, she lost all track of time.  Hearing a sound, she noticed that it was darker than when she had first arrived, and standing she turned to see what she’d heard.

A chill ran through her as she stared at a familiar figure, pretty features, a wry smile, and green eyes.  Ami could not move as the other approached her, though she recognized an unfamiliar temerity in the gait.

The other lifted her hand to her lips and kissed the back, “I’ve kept those promises, now it’s time to keep others.  If you’ll let me.”
