Have been watching a bit of the tennis (as you do) and, as I probably did last year, I've got to say what a sycophantic bunch of morons the Australian commentators are. John Alexander: master of effusive praise and what would pass for hyperbole if he didn't appear to so seriously believe what he was saying. Sandy Roberts: with his upcoming programming announcements that he tries to make sound as interesting as the game you're currently watching. Liz Smilie: Ignores all evidence to the contrary in her efforts to gush over how well the Australian is playing. Thank god for the ex-players who co-commentate and put them back in their place.
paraphrased:
John Alexander: What you're watching here is historic tennis.
Jim Courior: I don't know about that. It's good tennis, but it's not historic. Ivan Lendl against Matts Wilander; that was historic tennis. This is just good tennis.
Sandy Roberts: Dancing With The Stars; starting this February!
Martina Navratalova: You've got some strange shows here in Australia.
Alicia Molik: That's a great lavender top you're wearing there, Bruce [McAvaney].
