People actually live in those ruins? Wow. Here they would be living under freeway overpasses, or gathered together in migrant encampments, hidden from the police who would move them on to somewhere else.
Now that I think about it, they do, sometimes, squat in boarded up abandoned buildings, (usually meth addicts), but, normally, buildings are not allowed to remain vacant and neglected for long. Any buildings like in those pictures would have been condemned and torn down. Building codes are strict here, mainly due to earthquakes.
