Nuuk Airport

Our flight yesterday was 50 minutes late, so we were in the airport about two and a half hours. We thought that was bad, well, here we are at Nuuk airport and our flight at 8:00 is cancelled, and the next one is at 11:40… And there’s nothing to do around here but sit in the airport for the next four hours. At least there’s internet for a relatively normal rate, $12 for an hour. That’s a tiny bit more than I’ve been paying, but it’s worth it because there’s absolutely nothing to do here. Not that there’s anything to do even online because it’s 5:30 AM EST so there’s no one to talk to, so all I can do is post this and check my e-mail. I didn’t even bring my book. Blah. Least I have music.

9:57 AM EST+2

Yay only 80 minutes til we board! …then a three hour flight. Ugh I hope I can get some sleep on the plane because I didn’t get much last night. But I can never sleep on planes, I dunno why. Dad went to the store in the city to change in some bottles almost two hours ago. It’s like two or three miles away so it’ll be awhile. Whatever, as long as he makes the flight. Hah it’s crazy, the soda is expensive but there’s two kroner deposit, which is about 44 cents. That’s insane, that’s nine times what w get back home. So Dad’s been looking around, scavenging for empty bottles everywhere. Usually I’d be like “Ugh, Dad, come on, you’re gunna make what, like 50 cents total? But no, you come in with a bag of 20 bottles and come out with almost $10. We’ve probably made like $30 total on finding bottles alone.

So I bought an hour of internet for $12 and it worked for about ten minutes. And when I say it worked I mean hotmail worked if I refreshed like eight times, and AIM went in and out. LiveJournal and Facebook didn’t work at all, so I wasn’t able to post it. And right after I wrote a long e-mail to someone it died and hasn’t worked since. I complained and the lady said it was another company who managed the internet and they just take the money, so couldn’t give me my money back. Yay, $12 for ten minutes of shitty internet. Only $1.20/minute. Two cents per second. Whatever.

Hope there’s stuff to do in Narsarsuaq. If not I’m just gunna sleep all day and tonight, I need it. Tomorrow we’re doing some sort o boat tour and the next day we’re taking a ferry to Narsaq. After that, it’s on to Reykjavik for the last two nights and then “we’re shippin’ out to Boston! (Whooo-oh-oh!).

Goddamn Dropkick Murphys…

1:32 PM EST+2

Hahaha so after getting here at 7:00 AM and finding out that our 8:00 flight was canceled we were told that the next flight was at 11:40. We waited patiently, and like I said Dad went into town and I just kinda sat around. Well, at 11:00 I asked when boarding time was and it turned out that the flight was delayed until 2:15… So we figured fuck it, we’ll take a hike. We left our luggage behind the desk and hiked up a mountain across the street from the airport. We found an old, probably abandoned ski lift where a resort used to be. We saw the chair lifts, all old and rusted. When we got to the top a huge fog front moved in and we could hardly see, but luckily it cleared up after we started descending. Hah Rose and Mom are gunna kill me because they told me to stop almost dying, but it was crazy up there, you make one wrong step and fall and break your leg and you’re screwed. But we made it, and we’re alive…

…that is for now we’re alive, but I may not be in a few minutes because I’m about to shoot myself. We came in the airport around 1:15, expecting to board around 1:55. Good, we only needed to wait another half hour or so… Not so. The flight was delayed again until 3:30. So we got here at 7 and the flight is at 3:30, that’s eight and a half hours we’ll have been at the airport waiting. Longest delay I’ve ever had aside from the overnight I had in Florida in January. Ugh.

Well, this time they assured us that it’s the final time and that it will definitely leave at 3:30. Apparently there were some “technical difficulties” that has since been resolved.

Well, hope to see you in Narsarsuaq, if we ever make it there.

Hotel Narsarsuaq

We did make it. We got here at like 5:15 and checked into the youth hostel. There really isn’t much here except the airport, hotel, restaurant, and youth hostel. The internet is a normal rate, $12 for an hour so maybe I can get some stuff done. I really don’t feel like typing anymore. Not much interesting has happened.

Later,

Isaac
