I am the sort of person who enjoys a transitional period, no matter how small.
Last Friday was my last day at my previous place of employment. I hadn't really been enjoying it-- in fact, spent some time actively hating it-- for the last year and a half. And now all the things about that job that drove me nuts are not my problem.
My new job, however, needs me right away, so before even leaving the old, I was spending partial days at the new, learning the ropes, writing furiously in a notebook and trying not to forget the names of everyone whose hands I shook.
The new employer is a consulting company that trains people to be more effective at doing work with people in other countries. How to take care of business without treading on cultural toes. Huge client list of multinational companies. Just finished a project for the Army.
Better pay. More time off.
I'm finally out of the basement I spent five years working in. Above ground and in the light.
Kalloo kallay. So there's that.
