i want to thank guidosaur and duarschloch for calling to check on the safety of my siblings in new orleans. They called me sunday night as they were leaving and are staying with relatives of my sisters fiance in Lafayette which it seems has taken quite a few people fleeing the chaos. Thank the gods that they are safe. Scott was out of town on buisness in kentucky so he is also safe. The Wrench decided to stay in the city, as far as i know and no one has heard from him the last i heard. i have faith in his ability to take care of himself, but my thoughts are with him and hopefully the next time i talk to them they will have positive news regarding his status.
i just dont know what to think. i feel numb.
i understand people being upset about comparisons with the tsunami, and i agree that the scale is completely different, by several orders of magnitude.
i think that those comparisons were made without really thinking. how can anyone going through that hell think rationally. all they are seeing is the world as they know it being washed away and reacting as best they can. i dont think they meant to imply that a few deaths in 'merica are more significant than a shitload someplace else. its just people coping with loss and destruction.
