Okay…I admit it. It’s in my blood. I’m infected. It’s there, and I’m never going to be rid of it, so I might as well let it loose the best way I know how. As much as I try not to be…as much as I wonder that this makes me seem even more of a bitter old shit than I really am, I still can’t change the fact that I am, always have been, and always

Oh, btw, one thing everyone keeps forgetting about this little "surge". Logistics and financing. Each battle ready soldier costs approximately $34,000, just to train and equip. You then have to feed them, house them, do their laundry, and read them bedtime stories. Not to mention vehicles. It's not like they're going to walk over to the sandbox. They have to be flown, in a several leg journey from one airbase to another. Then once we get them there, we have to go into these little enclaves of sectarian hippie communes and, well, kill a couple hundred people, take their houses, convert that land into a fortified barrack/outpost, set up secure supply lines to keep those troops in their fortified little bunkers so they don't starve or dehydrate, secure electrical distribution or generation for those locations, set up barricades against truck bombs, scope out a deadman zone to remove sniper nests and then sit there for 18 months and hope no one figures out that 2 truck bombs and a couple dozen snipers could wipe out any outpost before any re-enforcements could even think of mobilizing. Throw in a few RPG's and you've got a barbeque.
Part of the whole reason the generals on the ground were not asking for more troops is logistics. Unless each forward base were to be completely self sufficient with established supply lines and really heavy support and intel, they're simply sitting ducks.
The "Green Zone" is a fortress. You can't get within 2 blocks of it without being spotted, which is why the insurgency has stopped most of the rocket, grenade, and car bomb attacks on that target. Pretty much they just waited for patrols to come out, set up the roadside bombs and ambushes, and had a field day picking off uniformed Americans. They also turned on each other as targets of opportunity presented themselves. When supplies are not available in your neighborhood, you go to another neighborhood and raid thier shit. Rather simple, happens to work. Of course, that neighborhood now needs supplies, so they go raid someone else, or come after the people who raided them. Nice little cycle gets started, and the locusts start to breed.
Many have theorised that the reason we are escalating this occupation is because the administration is in denial and, like a gambler who is down on chips, continues to gamble to try and "break even". This bullshit from the PR lackies that "America must succeed" is the most glaring evidence of this denial. They do not understand that we have already failed, and no matter what we do, we cannot regain control, nor can we defeat a population that is starving and dying because we are there. The population has 2 choices. Die by a bullet or wither away as the invaders plunder their homes. The best part is this latest attack on the Iranian Embassy up in the Kurdish territory. Supposedly the purpose is to disrupt the weapon supply line. Of course, there's nothing there, and the terrorists/insurgents are simply giggling with glee as we've just opened a new hornets nest. Most of the weapons were already in country. Pretty much every male in the country had access to a rifle or some sort. And explosive caches were raided during the initial looting back in 2003, thus distributed far and wide.
My brian hurts now. I could go on and on and on about how much of a clusterfuck this shit is.
Escalation. Gee, didn't we do that before, back in 'Nam? Didn't we get our asses handed to us, back in 'Nam? Wasn't it a bunch of poorly trained, poorly equiped, decentralized insurgents and guerilla fighters that kicked out fucking asses back then and forced us to evacuate the country? Even after we threw more troops at the problems? Why are we still using this fucking playbook?
You know how we could win this? Ninjas, man, ninjas.
