Last contract it was only 3 departments getting the axe. Security, service and the grounds crew. 148 union jobs in all.m No one seemed to give a shit about us. Long story short, the union absorbed us and it worked out for the best, we all have jobs. Now there are about 3,000 union jobs on the chopping block. The print shop were I started at Merck will be gone by the end of the year. I tried to tell these guys that the company was just selling us a bill of goods. They claimed that I was just trying to saving my own hide. For some reason this old adage comes to mind.
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
