Il Ciclo
She spoke constantly,
Staring over my left shoulder.
She was pouring her heart to us,
And we were burning flowers
In the dust.
We spent years on your trampoline
That night.
We rode busses forever.
We stared at blue skies
And climbed through bamboo.
We went to movies that never ended
And danced,
While others started new lives.
But now I'm drowning
In the city.
I can't help her.
I can't even get a word in edgewise.
Mio Fratello si è Laureato
When the stadium fell silent,
The familiar flags were missing.
The names Beamer, Smith,
Loria, and Vick
Were nowhere to be found.
When the stadium fell silent,
A thousand people in black cloaks
Sat on the field.
Thirty-two more sat with them,
But did not.
When the stadium fell silent,
I knew that these familiar sights
Could never be the same.
Caution tape and flowers
Get in the way
Of goal posts and dorms.
