“I don’t understand why we can’t go shopping together!” Arizona said sounding like a petulant child. Callie emerged from the bathroom her toothbrush sticking out of her mouth.
“Because we won’t actually shop!” Arizona sighed heavily.
“Yes we will! I’ll pick pick out a few swimsuits...and you’ll pick out a few...and we’ll…” she trailed off rolling her head to the side to look at her girlfriend.
“We’ll?” Callie asked seductively.
“Try them on...buy one and come home” Arizona replied in a rush. Callie laughed at the blonde’s flush face and walked back in the bathroom, shouting out, “You expect me to believe you when you don’t even believe yourself?” She was startled when she felt the familiar hands slide around her waist.
“Touche” she gave Callie a light slap to the butt before leaving the bathroom. “I have to run over to the hospital anyway. I’ll be back before noon so we can leave” Arizona said slipping on her shoes.
“Whoa, whoa whoa” Callie said coming out of the bathroom once more. “We need to leave for the airport at noon and you haven’t gotten a swimming suit yet. How do you plan to do rounds and go shopping before noon?” Arizona grinned as she opened the front door.
“I bought a suit last week” Came the cheeky reply before the door closed.
Callie was frantically searching the house for anything she might be forgetting. Glancing at the clock she pulled out her phone and dialed Arizona. It was ten till and the blonde had yet return or call.
“Hey, I’m on my way!” Arizona whispered.
“Where are you? Why are you whispering” Callie asked grabbing their suitcases.
“I’m in the closet” There was a long pause.
“Ya know what I’m not even gonna touch that one.” Callie deadpanned.
“Har. Har. One of my patients showed up out of no where in the hallway. If I let her see me she’s going to want me to read to her and then we’ll miss our flight!” Arizona whisper-yelled. By this point Callie was laughing so hard she could barely talk.
“You’re--you’re hiding….from a kid!” Callie continued to laugh.
“Remember how funny this is when you’re in Miami alone!” Arizona threatened.
“Okay, okay. Just open the door and make a run for it. If someone stops you just say you’re being paged.” Callie said catching her breath.
“Alright. I’m gonna go for it! If I’m not back in ten minutes call me” Arizona whispered grabbing the doorknob.
“If we’re not leaving in ten minutes I’m leaving my suit at home” There was a pause.
“I’ll be there in five” The line went dead.
“oh god, oh god, oh god” Arizona mumbled under her breath as she handed the flight attendant her ticket. If she didn’t know any better she would have been sure the plane was getting smaller with every step she took towards it. Callie was happily walking beside her bobbing her head up and down with the music running through her headphones. After putting their things in the overhead they sat down in their seats.
“oh god, oh god, oh god” Arizona continued to mumble.
“Baby, calm down.” Callie said taking hold of her hand.
“I can’t calm down. Planes make me feel closer to death...and don’t say they’re perfectly safe. Your family was in a plane crash a few months ago!” Arizona said gripping her hand.
“They were on the ground!”
“So are we!” Arizona said, nearly in panic mode. Callie sighed reaching up and pushing the call button. A moment later the flight attendant was standing next to their seats.
“Good afternoon Dr. Torres, Dr. Robbins. Can I get you something?” She asked with a smile.
Callie squeezed her nervous girlfriend’s hand and looked up to the attendant.
“Could my girlfriend get a glass of...” Callie turned to Arizona in question.
“Gin and tonic” Arizona said quickly. Callie looked back to the attendant with a smile.
“And I’ll have a coke, please” The attendant nodded and headed back to the kitchen. Callie pulled their entwined hands into her lap. “Baby, everything is going to be fine. Let’s just sit back and relax, we’ll be there before you know it” She leaned in and gently kissed her cheek, pulling back just in time to see a hand set down the first drink and then the second. She smiled and thanked the attendant before giving her attention back to Arizona.
“It was nice of your father to send us first class tickets.” Arizona mumbled trying to keep her mind off of everything.
“Yeah, he offered to send up the jet...I didn’t think you’d go for that” Callie said taking a sip of her drink. The captain announced that they would be taking off soon. Arizona squeezed her hand and took a long gulp of her gin and tonic. The fasten seat belts sign illuminated and the plane began to roll back from the gate.
“We need to talk about something, anything” Arizona said finishing off her drink.
“Do you get this nervous when you fly for donors?” Callie said wincing at the pain in her hand.
“No, that’s work. I don’t have a choice.” Her reply was short and tense. Feeling her discomfort Callie decided it was time for a change of topic.
“Flight attendants, please prepare for departure” Came the announcement and the plane began to speed up. Arizona’s breath was coming in short pants.
“I want to move into together” Callie blurted as the plane began to lift off. Arizona’s eyes widened and her death grip released on Callie’s hand. “I know that it seems kinda sudden and a little out of left field; but, I’ve been thinking about it for months and I don’t want to wait anymore” She rushed out. Arizona’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she leaned in and kissed her with as much passion as she could.
“Yes” Kiss. “Yes” Kiss. “Yes” Kiss. Callie chuckled as she kissed her now crying girlfriend. It surprised Callie how easy the conversation had been. She knew that one day they would live together, one day they would be married, one day they would have children, and one more day was one day to long to wait. Now sitting with her girlfriend in her arms she felt like the time was now.
The rest of the flight was uneventful. They sat and quietly talked about their plans for the next week and what to do about their apartments; when they weren’t talking they were napping. Arizona had been relatively distracted until the captain said they were preparing to land and the attendant had set down a preemptive drink. The landing was so smooth they didn’t even realize they were on the ground and Arizona breathed a sigh of relief. She couldn’t have been happier when she stepped off the plane.
“Come on, let’s grab our luggage” Callie said taking her hand in her own. They walked at a leisurely pace through the airport stopping to use the restrooms and get coffee. They had just picked their bags off the conveyer belt when they heard shouting.
“Callie! Zona!” Aria rushed towards them, throwing her good arm around each.
“Hey little sis. You ready to get that cast off?” Callie asked as they walked towards the doors.
“Like you wouldn’t believe!” She said with an exasperated sigh. She pulled at Callie’s arm, “Come on! Mom is waiting”
Arizona was pressed nose first to her window “oohing” and “awing” at the lights and Callie felt like she was a teenager again, sitting in the backseat with her mother driving her around.
“Here we are!” Daniella said stopping the car. Arizona looked wide eyed at the house as she climbed out of the car.
“This is your house!? Do you have your own zip code!” Laughing Callie pulled out their bags out of the trunk.
“Naw, we share with the house down the beach” Aria said bouncing up the sidewalk.
“Honey, your father wished he could be here; but, he had to fly up to Tallahassee for business. He should be back in a day or two.” Callie continued to converse quietly with her mother as they entered the house and Arizona was still a little stunned. She knew Callie’s family was wealthy; but, the Torres house was more of a mansion and she was pretty sure her entire paycheck wouldn’t cover some of paintings on the walls.
“Calliope I had your room tidied for you..umm...Arizona you will be staying across the hall.” Daniella said with a stern note. Callie rolled her eyes and sighed heavily.
“Mom--” Before Callie could continue her protest Arizona cut her off with a gentle hand on her arm.
“That will be fine Daniella. Thank you.” She smiled sweetly. Seeing her chance at exiting without a protest Daniella kissed them both before hastily retreating down the hallway. Callie followed Arizona as she ventured into her room for the week.
“Fine! How is this fine?” Callie ranted. Smiling as she unpacked her things Arizona’s calm voice filled the room.
“I want your parents to like me. If that means sleeping in separate rooms, then so be it.”
“We’re adults! Adults who are going to live together.” Callie flung herself into the nearby chair.
“That may be true; but, your their daughter. So that argument doesn’t really apply.” Setting down a hand full of shirts she crossed the room to sit on the arm of the chair. “We can fight over it until we’re blue in the face, or” she leaned forward and brushed her lips along the shell of Callie’s ear.
“Or?” Callie sighed out.
“Or you could show me your room and we could make out on your bed” Her eyebrows bounced suggestively. That was all it took for Callie to jump up and drag her girlfriend across the hall.
The first thing she noticed when she woke up was the smell of the salty air and the sound of waves crashing in the distance. Smiling to herself she sighed at the comforting feeling of being home. Reaching out she expected to further the feeling by pulling her girlfriend closer and was upset to feel nothing but cool sheets.
Creeping across the hallway she hoped to catch Arizona still asleep. Opening the door slowly she was disappointed to see a perfectly made bed. Walking into the kitchen she hoped to find her girlfriend there and was disappointed again to see her mother and sister.
“Have either of you seen Arizona?” Callie asked grabbing herself a cup of coffee.
“I saw her walk down to the beach this morning” Aria mumbled through her waffles. Pouring her coffee into travel mug she headed down towards the water. As her feet hit the sand she entertained thoughts of her gorgeous girlfriend emerging from the ocean or maybe a slow-mo scene from Baywatch. She was brought out of her fantasy by the reality of her incredibly sexy and sweaty girlfriend jogging towards her.
“Hey! Good morning!” Arizona said excitedly coming to a halt. She quickly kissed Callie on the lips before stealing her coffee. She sat down in the sand and switched between sipping the coffee and stretching out her legs. Staring down at her girlfriend Callie wasn’t sure if she was ever going to speak again.
There were millions of things Callie loved about Arizona. Hundreds of millions really; but, at the moment the only thing that came to mind was her legs. Callie had spent days touching her legs and would gladly turn those days into weeks, months and god willing, years! Standing on the beach in front of her childhood home the only thing she could think of was dragging her girlfriend back to bed. Realizing that she had yet to say anything she dropped to her knees next to her and moved dangerously close.
“You’re really sweaty” Callie’s voice husked as she took back the mug and set it aside.
“I was running” Came the innocent reply.
“I missed you this morning…” Callie moved an errant blonde curl behind her ear.
Arizona was in trouble. She knew that there was no way they were making it back to the house and she wasn’t exactly thrilled about the idea of Callie’s family coming out and seeing them. ‘oh shit’ She thought when her attention was caught by Callie’s wandering hand on her thigh.
“Baby, someone could see us!” She squealed as her body betrayed her by moving closer.
“I know, isn’t it exciting?” Her lips attached to her neck as her hands gripped her legs.
“Ooohh god. Calliope” She moaned pulling her closer. Callie chuckled as she pulled her lips back to whisper.
“I want to take you somewhere”
“Anywhere, you can take me anywhere” Arizona panted out.
“Promises, promises” Callie sighed untangling herself to stand up.
“Seriously!” Came Arizona’s indignant response as she was pulled to her feet. Callie’s smug smile was her only answer as she pulled her down the beach. Soon enough they found themselves away from the house and walking beneath the pier. Before Arizona had time to register their seclusion Callie’s hands had found themselves back around her waist as she pulled her in for a kiss.
“This was my favorite spot when I was growing up. I came here almost everyday” Callie said softly nuzzling her neck. “I know it’s incredibly cliche to tell you that you’re the first person I’ve ever brought here; but, you are.” She kneeled down in the sand and pulled her girlfriend down to her level.
“You’re a part of my life, the best part. It maybe stupid and cliche but, I want you to be a part of all of it.” Smiling Arizona ran her hand through her dark locks. “Now, I believe I was telling you good morning…”
“Is that what you were doing?” Arizona purred as she settled back to the ground.
“Mmm-hhhmm” Was the only response she received as Callie pulled at her sweaty shirt.
