Pixie Cabin, main common room

Parker had intended to spend today reading a book and chilling out. Trying to just relax.

Angelica Demesnes books clucking at her from her trunk had her slamming the lid down and heading into the common room. Where she proceeded to veg out on TV and the next-to-last Supers.

Having seen her yearbook peck its way around her floor earlier, when Jaye comes in the living room, she just points at the book and says, "Bawk."

"Chirp," Parker greeted her back, nodding. "Cheep." Then shook her head. "I think I'm leaving this place just in time. This is way too normal to me."

"I went twenty minutes with one in my alcove before I even noticed it," she says. "I feel very old, and possibly wizened."

"Yeah. I don't even want to freak out the new kids. Not worth it. Fandom will do a much better job than I can, anyway." She cocked her head. "If it's any consolation, you have great skin for someone who's wizened."

"I moisturize," she says with a nod. "So how long are you here, anyway?"

"Sunday. It was supposed to be earlier, but they screwed up reservations or the jet, or I don't know what." Parker made a face, and waved a hand. "Which, I'm not sure if I'm glad or sad that I get the extra day. This place is getting depressing. How much longer are you here? I heard you got a job somewhere."

"Yep. I'm going to work for Angel," Jaye says. "Go ahead and 'huh'. Everyone else is. I have to be back home for my friend's graduation, so I think I'm going to leave like next Wednesday or something."

"Angel? You... doing what?" Parker asked, eyes wide. "You can't be killing demons." She blinked. "Unless you're secretly a vampire Slayer and you kept a secret in Fandom longer than anyone else in the history of ever."

"I'm answering phones, and stuff," she says. She thinks. "I am an office manager. Manager. Me. Say it with me now: buh."

"Buh." Parker looked like she meant it. Then she started snickering. "Well, you can't be worse than Logan. Maybe there's a chance you can enter fees in a spreadsheet so they make sense? Unlike Mr. I'm-too-smart-to-do-the-taxes."

Jaye blinks at her.

"I think I can file."

Parker stared at her, then nodded. "...yeah." She opened her mouth, closed it. Then muttered, "Oy." She rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Did Angel mention-- nah. Never mind. Not germane." She smiled. "Congratulations? I guess. You want to fight slimey evil, though? With long hours and low pay and--" She frowned. "It's a job. I thought you hated those on principle."

"Free room and board," she says. "And I don't have to put up with college dorm food. As long as the computer has Solitaire, I think I'll be okay."

"Valid." Parker shook her head, then looked thoughtful. "Well. You've survived two years here. And it's not like you want to chop things with a sword. I guess it won't be all that dangerous, being the Office Manager." She grinned. "If it works out, I'll probably see you there in September. I'm visiting Zero in L.A. then, and Angel's place is just a quick Portal-O-City jump from there."

"Could be cool, if LA is still standing at that point," she says. "Let's face it, it could be a crater in the ground with all of us there."

Parker imagined Logan, Angel, and Jaye, fighting evil-doers; then shuddered at the collateral damage to buildings and vehicles L.A. had to look forward to. "Yeah, I'll definitely phone ahead to check on where you guys are by then."
