Pixie Cabin, main common room

May 14, 2007 20:59

Parker had intended to spend today reading a book and chilling out. Trying to just relax.

Angelica Demesnes books clucking at her from her trunk had her slamming the lid down and heading into the common room. Where she proceeded to veg out on TV and the next-to-last Supers.

Conner came into the living room with his laptop, looking disturbed.

"Does anyone believe me now that books are scary?"

"Fandom books? I've known that since I worked at the Library." Parker pulled a leg up and gave Conner a bemused smile over her knee. "So. When do they start sending people to work on the school, do you think?"

"No idea." Conner shrugged and booted up the laptop. "I was all set to go do that today, but it kinda didn't happen, and I haven't heard. When are you booking out of here?"

"Sunday. I thought it would be Saturday, but there's been some delay in Moscow." Not that it was a surprise. Just annoying. "It's weird, being here without classes, and watching all the new kids go scurrying around."

"Tell me about it," Conner agreed as he fired up a browser to check his email. "All the timeline stuff that makes my head hurt and everything. And then every now and then it hits me that I actually graduated for real this time."

Parker grinned. "That's right, I forgot this was your second time around, technically." She stretched her legs out, thinking. "I'm enjoying the break, although not the good-byes. I keep waiting for someone else to go walking away."

"Yeah," Conner sighed. "I'm staying until the end of this session, just because I really don't want to leave yet, but I can't put off going home any longer than that unless I want to lose a whole year on my summer soccer camp plans."

"Attending one, or helping T.A. one, or what?" Parker said, looking curious. "I seem to remember that you wanted to put one together, from something you said ages ago..."

And damnit, could Not a Virgin Any More just quit playing in her head?

Conner shook his head. "Starting up my own," he said, a slight hint of trepidation in his voice at the thought. "Turtle said she'd help sponsor it, and funding was my biggest problem. I've had the rest of the plans worked out for like a year now."

It was a good thing for all concerned that he wasn't privy to her mental soundtrack.

"Wow. That's pretty cool." Parker smiled quietly at him, and asked, "So that'll be back home? Kids attending from all over? Will Kira be back there sometime soon, you think?" She looked mischevious. "I could always mail her some more photos of you..."

"Well, I'm thinking I'll start kind of small. Just the Reefside/Blue Bay Harbor area. If that goes well I might make it bigger next year." Conner frowned, cleared out his spam folder, and scanned an email from his brother. He totally didn't even flinch at the weekly lists of damage done to the house, any more.

And then what she'd said about Kira sank in.

"No! No more pictures! She's in New York anyway and she can't really afford to go home much and she's met Gwynn and I am so dead."

"Cool. Less chance of it failing if you start small." Parker started chuckling at his reaction to her offer of photos. "Oh, c'mon. I've sent her an e-mail or two over the last year... and why are you dead now that she's met Gwynn?"

"It might . . . quite possibly . . . have something to do with the fact that they look so much alike?" Conner offered sheepishly.

Parker started giggling so hard she almost fell off the couch. "Are you *serious*?"

"Well, it's not like I ever hooked up with Kira or anything," Conner said sulkily. "But seriously, you've met Kira! They totally look almost alike! You know, if Gwynn dressed like Avril Lavigne or something . . ."

"There is a certain fragile-boned big-eyed similarity, yes," Parker said, still amused. "Sooo-- did you ever ask her out?"
