Law and Order

Contains spoilers, so I'll put it under the cut.

I didn't bother with tonight's episode of CRIMINAL INTENT seeing as it was a Logan/Wheeler week and I find their episodes rather slow and a little too...political, I guess? I can never get into them so I just don't tune in. At least next week will be a Goren/Eames week. Yay!

But, SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, on the other hand was superb tonight!! These are the episodes that I love, the ones with character development and backstories. Some random thoughts:

*First of all, I'm so happy that Elliot, Olivia, Munch and Finn were all prominantly featured in the episode. I always prefer when the four of them get a case that involves each character.

*Love the evolving relationship between Elliot and Olivia. Their loyalty to one another is fantastic to watch. I loved how, in the opening scene, we see that Elliot risked his own career just to make sure Olivia was safe, even though what she was doing wasn't right.

*Cragen was really grumpy this episode. I understand he was pissed off that Elliot and Olivia were chasing people behind his back, but at the same time I thought it was a little unfair of him to ask, "Tell me why I should keep you two together after this mistake" (or something along those lines). The way I see it is, while they did make a mistake in going behind their captain's back I still believe that all the positive results they've had regarding solving cases together should more than make up for this momentary lapse of judgement.

*I know a lot of SVU fans were worried about how the "Olivia has a brother" storyline would play out, but I thought it was done exceptionally well. We finally get to see her father's face (in the picture) as well as gain some backstory on how her brother was raised (although he could be lying). I liked how it was left open-ended. The audience is left feeling almost 100% positive that her brother is a rapist like her father, but at the same time, you can relate to her feelings of doubt. I thought the interaction between both of them, when they were relating to one another, was really well played. Olivia realizes he's likely a bad person, but he still is her family.

*Again, Elliot standing by Olivia's side is one of the reasons I love watching this show. Their interaction with one another is excellent. Even when they were being examined by the psychiatrist I loved how Elliot admitted he would save Olivia's life over a victim/civilian.

*Great ending. I loved the look on Cragen's face when the psychiatrist said that Elliot and Olivia were too close. But, at the same time, she awknowledges that separating them would be to divide his best detective team.

Overall, one of the most solid episodes of the season. A great balance of the typical weekly crime (with that former prisoner who rapes other men) and character development.
