Wool/silk detergent and softner.

Wool cycle.

Hang to dry.

Should be fine :)

For smelliness, best thing would be to Febreeze (or, inna pinch, cheap vodka in a spray bottle). Pretty much guaranteed not to harm anything that has survived that long. Soak it down fairly well, put it into a reasonably sturdy plastic bag, then hook to a vaccum cleaner hose and pull all the air out, repeat as necessary. For external cleaning, something like the aforementioned wool cleaner or even a baby hair shampoo, wash the outside by hand, rinse off, and it should be clean. I've had great luck cleaning soft toys with that method, and some of those were stinky and smelly and sooty from being exposed to a house fire.

We always put my teddybear in the washing machine on a gentle cycle in a pillowcase. She never seemed worse for ware. She wasnt quite that old though.
