Regardless of who is smoking in the North Booth outside of Primary Children’s Medical Center, they always start the conversation midsentence.

The first pediatrician told us to lay off the caffeine, he says to me. Lay off the sugar and the caffeine. That was three years ago. When the headaches came back this time we were just terrified.
