Day... what is it? Three? Essay one (the lit review) is in second draft stage; I realized last night that I need to add more to it from another book, but that was a relief to learn because it was kind of short (10-12 pages requested, and it's 10, with inch-and-a-quarter margins). Essay two, the analysis, which compares aspects of Out of the Past (1947), Planet of the Apes (1968), and Kurosawa's Ran (1985), is at ten pages out of fifteen, and going quite well. Just tedious. I have yet to start the history paper (in what ways is Miyazaki truly a Japanese Disney?), but in a way that's the easiest one, just putting together useful quotes and writing down a lot of stuff I already know.

Eating regularly and eating well have gone straight out of the window. I'm not worrying about it now (but I will on Tuesday, when these are handed in), but am at least trying not to eat past the point of being full. I did discover that an entire Entenmann's Cheese Danish Twist has fewer calories than a McDonald's hamburger combo, which puts a new perspective on my junk-food thoughts. I'd much rather binge on half an Entenmann's than have MickeyD's at three or four times the calories!

I've also discovered that it is alcohol which makes my ankles swell, not sugar, not heat, not sitting in a chair for eight hours a day typing. I've also discovered that being at home and struggling through tedium, with the kitchen about five feet away from me (trust me, I can't get farther away unless I work on my laptop sitting on the toilet, which is far from an ergonomically ideal position), is a major eating trigger. I lose all sense of time, too.

(Kids playing outside, will you please SHUT UP? Or at least speak a few octaves LOWER? I'd really like to leave my door open for the fresh air that we're getting at last, blow out some kitty litter smell.)

... Wow, the car crash at the end of Out of the Past is pretty cheesy by today's standards -- looks totally like small models chugging along. Thank heavens for sound effects to convince us otherwise.

alexandra the academic, the hardest thing i've ever done
