The only real problem with watching Vikings before I go to work on Friday is that I then spend the entire workday trying not to think about Vikings. This is not entirely successful.
* It's not like I didn't know Ecbert was a cold, manipulative bastard. It also says to me, again, Athelstan better stay far, far away. (One wonders if that wasn't one of the many reasons he went back with Ragnar: he knew exactly what Exbert was capable of.) But whoa.
We'll see where this ultimately leaves Ragnar, et al.: I'm assuming none of them will be going back any time soon--unless Lagertha decides to rejoin the settlement or other things related to the previews for next week happen (see below). They'll all be busy in Francia for at least a little while, and there's no reason to assume anything untoward is happening. Yikes.
* I was hoping that Lagertha's response to Kalf's saying he was attracted to her would involve a knife in his eye, but alas. I do wonder how this will end up playing out with Lagertha. She's smart enough not to fight a war she knows she won't win on her own (and despite going, "Ragnar, you fucker!" at Ragnar's refusing to back her, militarily, I can understand his reasoning), but she's also not one to give up. So...is this part of a ruse? Is Ragnar actually waiting until Kalf shows up with his ships--and whatever allies he has, so Ragnar knows what she would be up against? Is Ragnar planning to draw Kalf away on the raid to Paris as a means of giving Lagertha a chance to regain her Earldom? Hm.
* JUDITH, DO NOT BE HONEST! That's not going to work out well for you!
* So, was Floki trying to get Ragnar so bent out of shape he'd do something really insane or was he honestly thinking he was doing the right thing to tell him? Honestly, why can't it be both: He was a little too gleeful at telling Ragnar how many, many times Aslaug went with the wanderer (when it really only seemed the one time). But I could also see him trying to gauge Ragnar's reaction to the idea that Odin laid with his wife.
* It's interesting to watch Ragnar getting through things and seemingly start to unravel at the same time. Maybe it's the fact that it's too many people demanding too much of him. Or maybe it's that he feels that giant ticking clock over his head....
No idea what the Seer's predictions to Rollo and Ragnar meant. Well, I have some idea. I'd worry for Rollo's impending death except, well, history.
And, yes, I'm going to put a separate cut tag for the preview for next week.
I think I need to watch The Usurper again so I can watch the previews for next week about 10 more times, so I can pick apart what the hell is going on.
* I'm assuming that's Judith, being led screaming to a likely not very kind fate. (Being burned at the stake for being an adulteress would not be out of the realm of possibility for that era. That she's also the wife of the heir apparent means it's not only adultery, but treason, as well, so.) Ugh. WE DO NOT TALK HONESTLY TO PEOPLE, JUDITH! *sigh*
* I'm most heartbroken, though, by the idea that Athelstan would give back his bracelet to Ragnar. Yeah, yeah, he's likely embracing the Christian side of things once and for all, but don't reject Ragnar!
I admit, I'm a little worried about who, exactly, bloody!Ragnar is leaning over with that knife. My first worry is that it's Athelstan and Ragnar, in his desperation to keep him, is hobbling him or some such. But it could also be Floki. Or it could be something else entirely!
