Title: Never be Lonely Anymore
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Word count: 6500
Rating/Warnings: NC-17 for sexual situations; Schmoop galore (it is a Valentine's fic after all)
A/N: This was inspired by the Darren Criss and Charlene Kaye song
Dress and Tie. I used the lyrics throughout the song so all credit for that belongs to those amazing singers.
Summary: Jared has been unlucky in love a lot lately, leading him to be alone on Valentine's Day. Against his will, Genevieve drags him out to a singles only party on the holiday at a local bar. Things don't go as planned whatsoever once there. But a run in with the band's hot guitar player might turn things around...

Oh my heart's been tried
Time and again
Always thought that it was me but
I see now just how wrong I was

The room was in utter disarray as he sat in the middle of the floor. Boxes of various sizes lay scattered around him, overflowing with old papers and trinkets. It looked like a tornado had swept through, sending most of the old things onto the floor and ripping some to shreds. He didn’t look much better. His hair stuck out at odd angles and his clothes were rumbled. This was definitely not how he wanted his Valentine’s Day to be going.
“Jay?” Gen called as she entered his house. She was still dressed in her scrubs from work and a few strands of her hair had fallen out of her once perfect ponytail.
“In here,” Jared sighed, flopping back onto the floor. The movement sent some of the papers and cards flying.
“Um…what are you doing?” Gen asked as she stepped into Jared’s bedroom.
“Nothing…”
“This is most definitely not nothing, sweetheart.” Gen set her purse down and kicked off her sneakers before entering into the heart of the mess. She lay down next to Jared, bumping his shoulder in the process. She grabbed a few of the papers from the pile next to him. She scanned over them quickly, realizing what it all was. “It looks like you are torturing yourself…”
Jared huffed, pushing himself off the floor so that he could snatch the old letter back from her. “I’m not…”
“Jay…you are going through your box of old stuff from past relationships.”
“So…”
“Jared!”
He rubbed his eyes and sat up so he could look at her. “Fine…I’m just trying to figure out where I went wrong, ok?”
“Honey, you didn’t-“
Jared sent her a look. “Seeming as how I’m still single, I think I must have.”
Gen sighed and rooted around through a nearby pile. “Let’s see…Aaron? He was a type A dick who couldn’t handle that you were in med school and had a lot of homework you had to do.” She grabbed another card. “Jacob…cheated on you with his ex girlfriend who he couldn’t get over.” She tossed that and grabbed a teddy bear with a goofy t-shirt on. “Mike…didn’t want to come out of the closet no matter how much you liked him.” She threw the bear across the room and picked up some concert ticket stubs. “Ooh…Aidan! Didn’t he leave you at the concert to hook up with the drummer and-“
“I get it!” Jared snapped and snatched the tickets out of her hand. He tossed them back into the box and started off towards the kitchen.
Gen bit her lip and followed after him. By the time she reached the kitchen he was already standing at the sink looking out the window. The weather had taken a turn for the worse and soft snowflakes had begun to cascade down from the sky. Jared didn’t notice her until she slid in behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. She nuzzled his back with her cheek. “I’m sorry.”
“No,” he replied softly after a few beats of silence. “I know you were trying to help.” He twisted around so that he could hug her back properly.
“I shouldn’t have said it that way. I just didn’t want you to go down that road again. You’re better than that, sweetheart. But I should’ve said it nicer.”
“Well…you are anything but subtle you know…”
“Shut up,” she giggled, smacking him gently on the arm. She looked up at him more seriously after a second. “But seriously…what’s going on with you?”
“I don’t know,” Jared sighed. “I guess…I just thought I wouldn’t be alone this year on Valentine’s Day…or that I’d be working so that I wouldn’t notice it.”
“Aww…honey…”
“I’m fine, Gen.” He squeezed her arm and turned around to start another pot of coffee. He knew she wouldn’t leave this be so he might as well get some caffeine in him.
“Jay-“
“Really.” He focused on pouring the coffee into some mugs, fruitlessly hoping that she’d take the hint. He took the mugs and sat down at his table. Gen followed him and took one for herself.
“You were supposed to be working tonight weren’t you?”
“Originally,” Jared huffed. “But the schedules got changed around at the last minute. And I’ve worked too much this week already. So yeah…I’m off.” He sipped at the scalding coffee. “I could have been occupied with babysitting for Jeff and Amy…but I had told them I would be at the hospital so my parents are doing it instead. They already planned a night for the kids, so that killed that way of keeping busy.” Jared scrubbed a hand of his face and stared down at the coffee.
Gen reached across the table and took his hand off the mug to hold it in her own. “Jared, there is nothing wrong with being single on Valentine’s Day. I am too you know. It’s just a stupid holiday. I swear…it’s just so the card and chocolate companies of the world can make some extra money off sappy romantics who buy into all that crap.”
“I know…it’s just…”
“What honey?”
“I thought…I thought the move would help. Coming back here? I mean, after Jacob and I broke up and all…I thought the change of scenery would be nice. I missed being home. Missed you and my family. But…”
“It gets lonely,” Gen supplied in understanding. Jared looked up at her and saw the sadness in her eyes. “I’m there too, sugar. I know what it’s like. I mean, I love my family, my friends, my work…but it would be nice to have someone else to come home to at the end of my shifts.”
Jared sent her sad smile. “Y-yeah.”
“But that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with you…or me.” She drained the rest of her coffee. “Damn Single’s Awareness Day…”
Jared couldn’t help but huff out a laugh at his friend. “Pretty much.”
“I seriously think those bastards at the Hallmark company need to be shot for this.”
“Might be a little much,” Jared smirked in reply. “Besides, the kids are enjoying it at the hospital. We had one of those singing Valentine’s groups go around and pass out candy to most of the kids today. They loved it! I swear…I haven’t seen some of them smile that much in a long time.”
“Evan?”
“Yeah,” Jared sighed. “Evan even enjoyed it.” Evan was one of Jared’s patients since having started at the Children’s Hospital. His parents lived two hours away and both had to work almost nonstop to pay for his medical bills. While it was the best for Evan’s health, the poor boy was miserably lonely. Jared adored the kid and had been thrilled to see him smile for the first time in ages earlier today.
“How’s he doing anyway?”
“Ok…we are still trying to figure out how to do his surgery. The tumor most likely isn’t cancerous, but it’s pressing down onto his brain badly. So we’re going to have to figure it out soon.”
“You will. You’re good at what you do”
“Hope so,” Jared muttered. “Want another cup of coffee?”
“Sure.” Gen stood to fix it for the two of them. “Do you work tomorrow?”
“Nope…I’m off for a few days.” Jared took the mug back from her and blew on it to cool it down.
“Me too.” She took a sip then nearly spit it out as she remembered something. “Oh my God! I know what we should do tonight!” A few drops of coffee sprayed Jared as she talked quickly.
“Say it…don’t spray it,” he grumbled.
“Sorry! But I know what we need to do tonight! This bar down the street from my apartment…Kane’s…they’re hosting a party for singles tonight!”
“Ok…”
“We should go!”
“Gen…”
“Come on, Jay!” She leaned forward and across the table. “Please.” She batted her eyes dramatically, causing him to laugh. “For me, babe?”
Jared groaned as he put his head down onto the table. He banged it gently against the surface. “Fine,” he mumbled, barely above a whisper.
Gen squealed and stood up from her chair quickly, knocking it back onto the ground with a harsh slam that startled Jared’s poor dogs. She ran over to his side of the table and flung her arms around him, squeezing him tightly and screaming thank you over and over as she bounced a little.
“Damn girl…”
“Sorry,” she replied, blushing. “I just really wanted to go but not by myself…”
“Thought that was the whole point of a singles night?”
“Well…you don’t count like that. I meant I wanted a friend and you are my best friend!”
“Nice save,” he laughed.
“Come on!” She grabbed his arm and pulled him up from the table.
“Where to?”
“Shopping! I need a new dress for tonight! And I’ll buy you something pretty too!”
“Gen-“
“You need a new tie!”
“I have to wear a tie?” Jared huffed.
Genevieve rolled her eyes. “Boys...”
“What?”
“Just come on already!”
Jared groaned but allowed her to lead him from the table and out into the snow. Somehow he thought he was going to regret this…
♬♥♬
No, I haven't known you for a lifetime
But somehow I've never been more sure that you're for me
Baby please
Don't leave, just come and dance with me tonight
♬♥♬
“Why did I have to wear this again?” Jared sighed, tugging on the tie around his neck. Gen had picked it out, saying it looked amazing with his eyes or something. She had on a red and black sweater dress that hugged her body tightly. Her high-heeled boots gave her more height, but she still didn’t reach very high on Jared.
“Because,” she huffed, “you look amazing in that shirt and tie!” She swatted his hand. “Stop playing with it.”
“I feel like I can’t breath with-“
“If you couldn’t breath then you would have passed out on the way over here.” Gen brushed past him and opened the door to the bar. There was already a decent amount of people dancing around the floor and drinking at the bar. Gen lit up at it all and Jared felt light shrinking away from everyone.
“A lot of people…”
“It’s awesome isn’t it?” Gen almost squealed in his ear. She dragged him over to the bar where some stools were available. He sat down with a sigh of relief and ordered a beer. Gen followed with a rum and coke. They sipped on their drinks for a few minutes. Gen was watching the crowd, trying to find someone who would catch her eye. Jared was just trying to enjoy his beer and the down time. The music wasn’t bad…some band he’d never heard of that apparently always played at the place.
Jared’s eyes caught on a guy in a t-shirt and blazer standing off to the side. He was staring in there direction, or in Gen’s direction. Jared rolled his eyes and tapped her. “Think you got an admirer.” He tilted his head towards the guy and Gen’s eyes followed.
She smiled around her straw. “You sure he’s lookin’ at me and not you, hot stuff?”
Jared looked the guy over one more time and saw that he had started to walk over towards them. His eyes alternating between the floor and Gen. “Oh, I’m almost positive.”
Gen ignored his grumbling and turned her attention back to the guy. He was cute. He had dark, short hair and piercing blue eyes. His smile was shy and his hands were buried deep in his blazer’s pockets. Jared could tell he was nervous and trying to keep them busy. Jared bit his lip from smiling at the situation.
“H-hi,” the guy said softly once he was in front of Gen.
“Hi,” she replied, much more at ease than the poor guy.
“Um…would you like…maybe…to dance with me?” The guy bounced on back of his heels as he said it. His hands tugged on his pockets so much Jared was amazing that the seams weren’t ripping under the force.
Genevieve bit down on her straw as her lips curled up into a smile. She moved her glass from her lips and set it down near Jared at the bar. “I’d like that. Name’s Gen by the way.”
“I’m Misha,” the guy sighed in relief. He helped her down from the stool and started to escort her out to the crowd as the music started echoing through the bar once more. Gen turned in his hold to mouth a silent “YAY” towards Jared. He smiled and shook his head at her before going back to his beer.
Gen danced through the next few songs with the Misha guy. Jared saw them swaying and giggling close to the other. He knew she wouldn’t be coming back over for awhile…if at all. Not that he could blame her. The guy was cute and it was obvious she was enjoying the time with him.
Jared drained his beer and leaned against the bar. The music was nice, and he was enjoying the down time. But he was starting to get lonely, even in the crowd of people swarming around him. He hadn’t been approached by anyone, guy or girl, since arriving. Unless you wanted to count the girl who practically passed out into him…and Jared most definitely didn’t.
Jared was debating another beer when he cast another glance towards Gen. She was leaning up against the wall, pressed close to Misha. His hands were at her waist, holding her against him while their lips remained locked. Jared sighed to himself. He knew he’d be alone for the rest of the night.
After debating with himself for a few more moments, he gave up and decided to forgo that second drink. He opted to just calling it an early night instead of hanging around. As nice as it had been to get out, just sitting here by himself was starting become depressing.
He gave another final look around the bar and his stomach dropped. In the corner opposite Gen and Misha was his ex Jacob…grinding against some girl as the music blared from a nearby speaker. Jared looked a little closer; it wasn’t Jacob’s ex girlfriend either. Jared scoffed to himself…the son of a bitch must have been cheating on yet another person. He shook his head and his decision to leave was definitely cemented all the more.
He settled his bill up with the bartender and hopped down from his seat. He looked at the crowd on the dance floor and realized it had only grown in size during his time at the bar. He didn’t look forward to having to weave through all the grinding couples just to make it to the door. Gen broke apart from Misha for a moment and caught his eye. She furrowed her brow and him. He gave her a little frown and shake of his head before waving a goodbye.
He was nearly to the exit when it happened…
As he reached to check his pocket for his keys and phone, he bumped, more like slammed, into something. A loud clang and crash followed as Jared stumbled and fell backwards. A strangled chord of music trailed behind.
“Shit,” Jared muttered. His hand was sore from catching himself and his vision was a little blurry as he tried to regain his bearings.
“Damn!” someone nearby cursed. More strangled musical sounds, which Jared was beginning to recognize as a guitar, clattered through the air.
Jared pushed himself up, despite the fact that it sent a bit of pain through his hand, so that he could see what and who he had ran into. He was met with a concerned face…a very pretty concerned face at that. Jared blinked and nearly fell back.
“Woah!” The guy let go of his guitar and grabbed onto Jared to steady him. “You ok? I mean…you ran into me pretty hard but I didn’t think it was that bad…”
“No…I mean…I’m ok,” Jared stumbled over the words. He rubbed a hand over his face and straightened himself up a little more. “I’m sorry. Are you ok?”
“Yeah…think you wounded my guitar but it isn’t anything I can’t fix with a new string or something.”
Jared groaned and held up his hands. “Oh God! I’m so sorry! I-“
The guy grabbed Jared’s hand gently in his. “Dude, you’re bleeding!”
Jared furrowed his brow and looked to his hand. It must have gotten scratched on the floor somehow when he fell back. “Oh,” Jared sighed.
“Come here,” the guy continued. He tugged carefully on the hand he was still holding onto in order to help Jared up. He slung his guitar strap over his shoulder and guided Jared towards the back of the bar, to where the offices were located. It wasn’t easy to push through the crowds, but the guy managed to get Jared back away from everyone and seated on one of the desk. “Chris should have a first aid kit for both you and my guitar back here somewhere.”
“Chris?” Jared mumbled.
“Is a friend of mine…he owns the bar.”
“Oh…makes sense.”
“Did you hit your head too?”
“No,” Jared huffed. “Just never been here before. Friend of mine dragged me out tonight.”
“Aww…Chris decided since I was dateless I should come help with the band.” He grabbed some supplies from the kit and started cleaning Jared’s hand. “Name’s Jensen by the way.”
“Jared.”
“Well…this doesn’t seem too bad, Jared.”
Jared twisted his hand so that he could get a better view of it. “Yeah. It isn’t. Doesn’t need stitches or anything.”
“You might want to swing by a hospital just in case…”
“Spend enough time in hospitals,” Jared sighed. He knew he was rambling, but he always tended to vomit out every word that came to mind when he was nervous. And the guy in front of him, Jensen, was pretty damn hot.
“Well…you do seem to be a klutz,” Jensen teased jokingly.
“Haha,” Jared replied sarcastically. “Work in one. Tonight’s my night off.” Jensen put a band-aid onto Jared’s hand to cover up the cut. “But I can be a klutz…I’m sorry I made you fall.”
“It’s ok,” Jensen waved him off quickly as he set about fixing his guitar now that Jared was fixed up. He removed the broken string and started replacing it with a new one from the pack he had dug out of Chris’s desk. “So…were you avoiding the dance floor because you were a klutz or something?”
Jared blushed deeply. “Oh…um…”
“Not that I’m a stalker or anything…but I had seen you sitting at the bar. Have a good view of it from the stage so I could see you for most of the time. I just noticed you weren’t dancing. Granted now that I know you are a klutz…”
“No.” He rubbed at the back of his neck, wincing a little when he realized he used the hand Jensen had just bandaged for him. “No one asked. I was heading out when I hit you.”
“Oh,” Jensen replied sympathetically. “Can’t believe no one asked you.” Jensen’s brows were furrowed a bit.
“It happens sometimes,” Jared huffed. “Well…actually a lot lately.” Jared nervously pulled at his tie, loosening the knot Gen had worked so hard to get perfect for him. “I should just go…”
Jared stood to leave but Jensen grabbed onto his uninjured hand and tugged him back. “Don’t leave.” Jensen looked so sincere. “Come dance with me.”
Jared bit his lip. “Aren’t you supposed to be fixing your guitar and getting back up on the stage?”
“Nah…Chris can survive without a backup.”
Jared hung his head. “You sure you want do this? I’ve already knocked you down one time tonight.”
Jensen squeezed Jared’s hand. “Luckily I’ve got a thick skull. Come on…dance with me tonight.”
Jared’s lips curved up into smile. “Fine…”
Jensen returned the smile and dragged him out onto the dance floor. Chris noticed him as he came out onto the floor and nodded in understanding. The music once again blared from the speakers, this time a softer tune. Jensen bowed dramatically to Jared, like one would in one of those period romances Gen always forced him to watch around this time of year. It made Jared laugh. He accepted Jensen’s hand in the same dramatic fashion and allowed Jensen to pull him in close.
Dancing went better than Jared expected. It felt nice to be held against someone’s chest and guided around the floor. They had fumbled a bit at first, trying to see who was leading. But it didn’t take long to settle into a comfortable rhythm. Jared didn’t realize how much he missed this. Just being with someone and enjoying the moment.
It sadly didn’t last long though. The music kicked up a notch and the crowd started moving around and faster. It didn’t take long for Jared to bump into Jacob and the girl. He turned around to apologize, not realizing whom he had hit, when the guy’s face came into view.
“Jared?” Jacob gasped in surprise, tightening his hold on the girl’s waist and pulling her even closer to him. She didn’t seem to mind.
“Hey Jake,” Jared sighed. “Didn’t expect to see you here.” He bit his lip. “Figured you’d be with Amanda and all.” The remark had its desired effect as Jacob paled a little at the mention of the girl he had left Jared for. The girl he had with him looked at him with confusion but didn’t move away. She appeared too drunk to really notice.
“Oh…well we didn’t exactly last that long after I…after we well…” Jacob trailed off. Jared heard the unspoken “after I broke up with you for her” that hung in the air nonetheless.
Jensen must have felt the tension because his hand found its way to Jared’s waist and pulled him close to him again. He nuzzled at Jared’s neck a little. “Babe…you going to introduce us?”
Jared was about to comment on the change in Jensen when he noticed the red tint suddenly blossoming over Jacob’s face. Jared had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing. “Oh! Right…Jensen, this is my ex Jacob. Jake, this is-“
“I’m Jared’s boyfriend, Jensen,” he interrupted. He nuzzled at Jared’s neck once again, pressing a kiss to the soft skin there. Jared couldn’t help but shiver at how it felt.
“Oh…wow…that’s good, Jay. I didn’t realize you were already seeing someone.”
Jared’s small moment of elation over getting back at Jacob died down a little at those words. But Jensen continued on. “Well…you seem to have bounced back yourself. Think he’s allowed to too, don’t you?” Jensen’s words were more biting than nice, and Jacob took the hint. He just nodded and pulled his girl back out onto the middle of the dance floor.
Jared felt too closed in after the confrontation. He shrugged out from Jensen’s hold and ran towards the door, making it outside without knocking over anyone this time. He leaned back against the brick wall of the bar, allowing the cold air to hit his face. After a few beats he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to see Jensen looking at him. “Sorry,” Jared sighed.
“No…I shouldn’t have done that to-“
“No!” Jared swallowed thickly. “That was incredible. You have no idea how badly I wanted to get back at him.”
Jensen nodded in understand. “He cheated on you didn’t he?”
“With his ex girlfriend. I was just a rebound…just didn’t realize it until it was too late.”
Jensen leaned against the wall next to him. “That sucks.”
“Yeah…but that wasn’t his ex so who knows. He’s probably just cheating on her too.” Jared scoffed. “I can sure pick them…”
“Come here,” Jensen sighed, bumping his shoulder against Jared’s. “We didn’t get to finish dancing.”
“No offense, but I don’t feel much like going back in there.”
“Never said we had to.” Jensen tugged on his hand and pulled him away from the wall. “What’s wrong with out here? Can still hear the music…”
Jared smiled a little and allowed Jensen to pull him against this chest once more. They fell back into swaying gently to the soft music right there in the middle of the sidewalk. The bitter cold faded to the background though. Jared felt warm in Jensen’s arms.
They stayed that way for a little while longer, until the music started picking up for faster songs. “You want to get out of here?” Jensen whispered down into his ear. “We could walk around…go back to my place for some coffee?”
Jared figured he should just go home and call it a night, but his head nodded before the word no could form on his tongue. Jensen’s face lit up at the answer though. He took Jared’s hand in his and started walking down the street. They fell into conversation, talking about work and family and everything in between. Jared couldn’t remember the last time that it was that easy and smooth to just talk to another guy. Most of his dates and past boyfriends got bored with his talk of work and school. But not Jensen…
“That’s really cool…you working at the children’s hospital and all. It’s a nice place.”
“I love it,” Jared replied as he tried to not slip on the ice. “I’ve been there a few months now. I mean…I hate seeing the kids sick and hurt like that. But being able to help them…it’s the best thing ever.” Jared blushed. He realized he had been talking about work for a while now. “God! I’m so sorry! I’ve gotta be boring you with all this! Tell me what you do…”
“You’re not boring me,” Jensen sighed. “I like listening to you. Besides, I could probably bore you with my work. I work at the local high school…I’m a counselor there and in charge of the music clubs.”
“That sounds anything but boring.”
“Well…working at the children’s hospital sounds anything but boring to me.” They neared Jensen’s house and he dug into his pocket for the keys.
“Wait ‘til you’re around me a little more and that’s all I talk about for a few hours.”
Jensen opened the door and paused. “Can’t wait…”
Jared stopped and just stared at Jensen. That should have sounded like a pick up line. Hell…he’d heard those words used as pick up lines before. But from Jensen…it just didn’t sound like that. As corny as it was, it was sincere at the heart of it. Before Jared could even think, he leaned forward and pressed his lips to Jensen’s. The man squawked in surprise, stumbling a little.
“Shit,” Jared gasped, as he broke apart. “I’m sorry! I-MMPH!” Jensen brought their lips back together, cutting Jared off. He deepened the kiss, pulling Jared inside with him. He kicked the door shut, not moving his mouth from Jared’s. His hands settled at Jared’s waist and they leaned back into the nearby wall. They moaned into the kiss and explored each other’s mouth.
They finally broke apart again for air. “N-no need to a-apologize,” Jensen stuttered as he tried to catch his breath. “Wanted that…since…the bar.”
Jared grinned goofily and leaned in for another kiss. Jensen pushed him back up against the wall and moved his mouth down onto Jared’s neck, sucking gently and teasing at Jared’s earlobe. He could feel himself respond, letting out involuntary moans. Jensen took note and sucked harder. His hand rubbed at the waistband of Jared’s pants. Jared brought his hand up to do the same before settling at the small of Jensen’s back and pulling him in tight against him. Their bodies collided against he other, allowing them to feel how much their make out session was affecting the other.
Jensen accidentally rolled his hips forward against Jared’s. They both moaned at the sensation again. “Damn,” Jared gasped. “Th-think we should take this...maybe upstairs?”
“I-I’d like that,” Jensen replied. He moved apart just enough so that he could guide Jared up to his bedroom. As soon as they were inside, his hands began to roam all over Jared once more. He felt the tight muscles along Jared’s chest and abs. “Damn…you’re ripped.”
Jared barked out a nervous laugh. “Not bad yourself.” He brought his own hand up and started to undo Jensen’s button down shirt. Before long, they were both tugging and pulling clothes off the other, sending them all flying into random piles along Jensen’s floor.
As soon as they were out of the confining attire, Jensen carefully pushed Jared down onto the bed, looming over him a bit. “Is…is this ok? I mean…I normally…”
“Y-yeah,” Jared stuttered out in reply as he blushed. “It…it’s just been awhile.”
Jensen smiled in understanding. “I’ll be gentle. Or we can just go back downstairs for coffee if you’d rather.”
Jared could tell he wasn’t just saying it. He would follow through if Jared wanted. Jared leaned up on his elbows to kiss Jensen. He tugged him down towards him. “Please…continue.”
Jensen smiled at the answer and set to work. He grabbed some supplies from his nightstand and set them to the side. He pulled Jared’s boxers down and gently grasped at his already growing desire. He prepped Jared with his other hand as he twisted and jerked Jared through he discomfort.
“St-stop! Need…want you…won’t…last,” Jared mumbled embarrassed. He hadn’t been with anyone since Jacob and that had been a long time ago.
“Shh…I’ve got ya. Got all night. School is closed tomorrow. I’m free all night and day.”
Despite his words, Jensen knew he couldn’t last much longer himself. He grabbed a condom then slowly pushed inside of Jared, allowing him to adjust. When Jared started squirming and tugging on his hips, Jensen took the hint and began moving carefully, getting a feeling for what made Jared feel good. It didn’t take long to find the right spot and pace to get Jared moaning and writhing underneath him.
Jared felt the pressure build as Jensen reached down in between them to grab onto him once more. Sparks ignited behind his eyes and he felt his orgasm build low in his belly. He couldn’t even speak a warning to Jensen before he went over the edge. “God,” he moaned as the feeling cascaded over him.
Jensen felt Jared tense and tighten under him before his head rolled back as he moaned. The feel and the sight were enough to finish Jensen off as well. He plunged his hips forwards one last time before he lost it himself.
It was intense for them both, lasting longer than they thought possible. They could barely breath, but neither minded. They were too blitzed to pay it any mind. After a few minutes, they came back down to themselves, gasping and clawing at the other to pull closer again. Jensen had flopped down next to Jared.
“Wow,” Jared said in awe. “That was just…”
“Incredible,” Jensen continued. “I’ve never felt…”
“Me neither,” Jared smiled.
Jensen kissed him on the lips as he pulled him even closer. He rubbed up and down Jared’s naked side as he pressed more lazy kisses along Jared’s jaw line. He moved his lips up to Jared’s ear. “Stay the night.”
Jared nuzzled down close to Jensen, not intending to move for the rest of the night…hell…maybe not even for all of tomorrow if he had his way.

Jared awoke to an annoying buzzing sound echoing through the bedroom. He felt groggy and was unsure of what the damned noise was. It took him a few moments to realize it was his phone. He spared a quick glance towards Jensen. The other man was still sound asleep next to him.
With a sigh, Jared climbed out of the bed, still naked, to find his phone. The cell had fallen out of his coat someone near the door in their haste the night before. He eventually found it and answered it quickly. “Yeah,” he said softly into it, not even look at the caller ID.
“Jay! This is JD…we need you to come in now! Evan started seizing this morning and it’s just getting worse. We’ve decided to go through with his surgery today. I figured you’d want to be there so-“
“I’ll be right there.” Jared clicked his phone shut and went about throwing on his clothes. He did it quickly, not bothering to put himself together too orderly. He’d have to just changed into a pair of scrubs once he reached the hospital anyway.
In his worry for his young patient, Jared forgot to leave a note for Jensen. He didn’t realize it until he reached the locker room at work and was changing out of his clothes. His heart sank at the realization and he banged his head against the nearby locker.
“Padalecki!” Dr. JD Morgan, Jared’s boss, yelled into the room. “Get a move on it!”
“Coming!” Jared slammed his locker shut and took off towards the OR. He pushed thoughts of Jensen, and how big of an ass the guy was probably thinking Jared was, to the back of his mind. He’d lost his chance. He had to take care of Evan now. That would be more important. Jared could always find another shot at love…even if he did seem hopeless. Or he could live alone…that was always an option…
In the end, Jared spent the whole day at the hospital. Evan’s surgery took hours due to the nature of it. JD had Jared assist and observe the whole thing. Following it, Jared could have gone home. But the poor kid’s parents hadn’t been able to get into town yet, and Jared hated to see him by himself. He spent the majority of his day cramped in one of the tiny plastic chairs in Evan’s room. It was worth it when the boy woke sore and groggy, but smiling at the company.
His parents arrived not long after that to take over the bedside vigil. Jared had taken the time to explain the situation and the procedure to them before sneaking back out for the night. He had decided to leave a pair of scrubs on rather than bother with changing into his shirt and tie from the night before. It reminded him too much of what had happened and the fact that Jensen probably assumed Jared wasn’t interested in him. He hadn’t even left his phone number for the guy…
With another dreary sigh, Jared headed out of the hospital. He had his clothes all piled in the spare messenger bag he usually kept in his locker in the lounge. But he hadn’t bother going home before coming in. It would have to do.
It was already dark outside and snow was starting to fall once more. He tugged on his coat and started to look around for a cab. But his attention was drawn away from his search when music started drifting over the otherwise quiet front lawn of the hospital. His eyes settled on a lone guitarist standing by one of the nearby benches. He took in the familiar instrument and the familiar musician in the long wool coat…
“Jensen…”
The man smiled and continued strumming on the guitar. Jared had never heard the tune before, but it was simple and pretty. It enveloped him and the rest of the bustle of the hospital fell away. He only had eyes for Jensen and ears for his music.
Jensen walked forward slowly, continuing to play his guitar until he was right in front of Jared. His hands fell away from the strings and he started singing. “So much learning to lose, but you're not a day too soon. So say you feel the same and we'll never be lonely anymore.” Jensen reached around behind him and pulled a single rose from his back pocket. He was blushing, the red standing out on his otherwise pale face, as he handed the flower to Jared.
Jared stood there with his mouth hanging open for a moment before he took the flower. He felt a blush of his own creep across his cheeks. It only intensified when Jensen reach up to cup his face. He had a pair of soft gloves on…the kind with the finger cut off so he could still play his guitar.
“H-how…how did you…”
Jensen smiled. “You told me you worked here.”
“But…”
Jensen dug into his coat pocket for a minute before producing Jared’s wallet. He waved it in front of Jared. “This must have fallen out of your pocket last night. I stepped on it when I was going to look for you. Found your in case of emergency contact list tucked into it. Called the girl…Gen. Once she got over the fact that I’d interrupted her time with her new boyfriend,” Jensen’s blush deepened, “she told me you probably got called into work or something. So…here I am.”
“W-wait…you’ve been waiting out here all day for me?”
Jensen rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “When you say it like that…it makes me sound like a stalker.” He sent a hopeful smile Jared’s way. “Which I’m totally not you know.”
“You seem to have stalker complex,” Jared teased. “This is the second time you’ve had to tell me that you aren’t one you know.” Jensen was about to explain further but Jared cut him off with a kiss. It was hard to maneuver around Jensen’s guitar but they managed. “Thank you,” Jared sighed once they broke apart.
Jensen nodded, smiling like an loon. “I guess you just bring out that side of me,” he joked back. “But seriously…I really enjoyed last night. It was…”
“Uncomplicated,” Jared supplied.
“And relaxed. Can’t remember the last time that happened when I was on a date.”
“Neither can I,” Jared laughed. He felt giddy, worse than a teenage girl at this point. But he didn’t care. “Want to go grab something to eat…I haven’t had anything all day.”
“I’d like that…a lot.” Jensen pushed his guitar around so that it was slung across his back. He reached down and took Jared’s hand that wasn’t holding the rose. Their fingers intertwined as they started to walk towards the diner across the street. They fell into easy conversation once again, almost as if they hadn’t stopped talking at all. Jared sighed in relief and leaned into Jensen a little as he walked.
Maybe Valentine’s Day wasn’t all that bad after all…
