Nate was carrying Jan over one shoulder as he walked back into the room. She was flailing a little and shouting something about not wanting to wear a skirt, but he was ignoring it for the moment.

"Still having trouble?"

"That rock totally gave me cosmic herpes," Wade whined. Because that was a good explanation for what was going on.

"Your healing factor isn't clearing it up...?" Nate asked. On his shoulder, Jan stilled. "Radio reported Worthington was having trouble."

[mouthy_merc]

"Like I'm being printed in the good ol' days," Wade replied, pulling off a glove to show off his now patchy grey hand.

Masks and costumes were awesome for covering this crap up.

"So, we thinkin' this has something to do with our new, benevolent rock dictator?"

Nate didn't visibly wince, but there was an air of... wincing around him. "Did you touch it?" he asked. "Worthington got bit by something that got near it."

"Just the water it was in." A beat. "Gloves and all."

Nate's mouth set in a grim line.

"In other words," he said, "It's highly infectious - whatever it is."

"Well, you guys aren't all gray yet," Wade pointed out. "So..."

"We were out at Town Hall all day yesterday," Nate pointed out. He studied Wade for another moment. "You need to see a medic."

Maybe he was a little worried.

"Yeaaaah, not the biggest fan of that." Damn needles. "You got a safehouse?"

[spring_lost]

"A couple," Nate said, evenly.

His mind had been going there, too.

Wade nodded, mood obscured behind the normally expressive mask. "Might wanna see Winchester. She touched it too and has a kid around Jan's age."

Nothing more to say about that. Nope.

"I was planning to swing by her office to see what her situation was," Nate said, setting Jan down on the floor.

She was glancing from him to Wade and back. He was just looking at Wade.

"I'll stay in contact."

He wasn't moving to go yet, though.

Pulling his glove back on, Wade looked at neither of them. "It'll be like a lil' vacation! As long as the safehouse isn't in someplace crappy. Like France. No one likes France. You can get in some trips too," he added. "Maybe annoy the crap outta your family for me, huh? That'll be fun for everyone who isn't Scotty."

"I'm not heading back home, Wade. It's not safe at the moment."

Nate settled his hand on Jan's shoulder. "I've got one or two on the old mainland." He paused. "Find a healer. I mean it."

"If I end dazzling people from some magic healing crap, I'm blaming you." It made perfect Goddamn sense.

"You just go have your vacation and--don't get involved in a crossover event without me."
