I couldn't believe what I was doing. I had come here to finish up my education and had known that the army would be involved in some facet, but I just thought that it was osme base near the UC Sunnydale campus where I could go and get my extra training ( Read more... )

I crept through the cemetary, and actually couldn't believe that vampires, bloodsuckers as they were, were actually here. It wasn't as though they were going to find any victims here, I mean, unless of course that there were some kids out here that dug on partying in cemetaries, which you heard of, especially at the college, but that didn't make it any less weird.

But, that's why I was here. That's why Forrest was out in another part of the town; to study the habits of vampires. How they roamed, where they went, when they went home, where home was for them, and most importantly, their habits, tendencies when they looked to feed.

I had a stake on me and knew the drill, which was still kind of hard to believe. I mean we had all seen movies and read books, but a stake through the heart made of wood, sunlight, decaptitation, holy water?

I followed, careful not to make a sound, as a vampire who looked like he had been a biker before, made his way out of the cemetary.

We weren't suppoed to try to kill them, per Maggie's orders as of yet.

According to her, they were imbued with superhuman strength, which made sense, and that we would only start to hunt and capture them when the government approved the as of yet named project and when more troops disguised as college boys received the training that Forrest and I had received, and all of the weapons that she had talked about came in.

The zeal in her voice when describing all of this was somethin that I would never forget and certainly made me want to be a part of the team, a part of the operation.

She spoke of a lot of the things that would be happening whn the pentagon approved of it all, and she did it with a certainty and clarity of somebody who had been part of the planning of this all, which of course made me more excited.

The danger excited me, and bing a part of something so important to national security and being one of the leaders of that, well, it was important.

I followed the vamp out of the cemtary and onto the street.

I wasn't supposed to kill this vamp, and it would be the first time that I had ever faced anythin so strong and she was clear thatwe weren't to risk our own lives, but by god, there was no way that I was going to allow this vamp to attack some innocent person and just idly watch on.

By god, I would catch it off guard and drive the stake through the back of it's heart as it was tightly gripped in my hand to the point where I was actually starting to cut myself.

It was tough tracking it on the streets, as it meandered out and I found myself using my covert-ops training and sticking to the trees, trying to remain anonymous, whyich was hard to do, because Maggie had said that they could smell and sense anything in the human blood or demon blood around that.

Still, if this one wasn't looking for me, then he wouldn't think about it, was my guess, so quiet, black-clad stealth guy I was.

Thinking about what Maggie had mentioned to us about vamps brought me back to our conversation, as I followed.

She spoke about what the operation would look like and how it would be set up when the pentagon approved it, and did it with a certainty of somebody in the know, like it was going to happen, which made sense, because otherwise, why would Forrest and I be receiving the training that we already were?

The operation wasn'tone hundred percent set in stone on how it would work out, but they had a good idea about what they were going to do.

One of the dorm halls, Forrest's and mine, would have a maze of tunnels and a very large containment center around it.

When she had mentioned that, I couldn't help but thinking, how is this going to work?

And that wasn't the only thing that I was thinking. I was also thinking about suits in Washington, trying to put their fingers around the concept of vampires bein in the world.

I couldn't help bu think that I wished that I had beena fly on the wall during those meetings.

The vamp headed towards town, which made stealthily tracking him even more of a mission.
