"Today we join the fearless men and women of Tekrias Alpha. The members of the elite 42 technical forces squad. Soldiers on the front lines in the war against the Maxian threat, risking life and limb in selfless dedication to our fearless leader, Minister Avis Nim. All hail our fearless leader! Please enjoy this special and remember citizens, mandatory voting takes place tomorrow, so have your ID chips ready at 23:00 hours for the civility enforcement officers!
Lt. Vex, the leader of the Squad 42 Technical outpost was the head of his class at the Tekrias Global Armed Service Academy. He won the Citizen's Star award for exhibiting great bravery and dedication under fire during the second Maxian war after his entire squad was wiped out and he single-handedly wiped out the enemy encampment with well placed plastic explosives, women's lingerie, and his inherent suicidal tendencies
Unfortunately for him, he has always been less than popular with his troops. They have always shared an unspoken and inherent hatred for him. The annoying whine of his voice, his ability to chastise them the the slightest error. It's as if they can feel his rage and discerning glare as surely as they can smell the alcohol and vomit on his breath on a Tuesday morning.
As second in command, Chief Specialist Novi constantly finds herself performing routine, menial maintnance around the base. Though she was told by her superiors her new position was a promotion, she knew better. She had been a fighter pilot with a nearly perfect mission record. If an enemy city needed to be bombed, she was the woman to send. But after a few too many missions she began to feel this intense burning in her chest, entering the cockpit of her ship induced a strange, knotted sick feeling in her stomach and caused dots of light to spin around her feild of vision. Nightmares of screaming, burnt children haunted her sleep. Military counselors seemed to believe it was the unthinkable for a good soldier, she felt remorse after accidentally bombing a civilian enemy target.
Her transfer to a non-combat unit was recommended immediately. Her piloting skills were no longer needed. All the same, she decided to keep her hat.
Dr. Aevik is a medic. Perhaps not the best medic in the forces though, which is how he landed in the 42nd Technical Squad. He had done very well in medical school, but every time a patient would die, he would start crying uncontrollably, and since he was initially placed as an attache to the 82nd. Combat Infantry Battalion, patients died a with disturbing frequency. Because these deaths would cause him such great distress, he would make many errors in patient care causing even more deaths until eventually his squad became known affectionately as "Aevik's Death Squad" But with mandatory service and the fact that the government had already gone out of their way to train a doctor, he was transferred to S42 in spite of how completely inept he was at his work. If non-combat technical squads in the middle of desert planets are known for anything, it's their low casualty rates, perfect for Dr. Aevik.
The purpose of Squad 42 is to operate a remote research and intelligence gather base on the sparsely inhabited world of Tevf. Operating thousands of drones and spy satellites is no easy task for such a small group of individuals. A such, Specialist Drexle is a key member of the team serving as the chief of intelligence. He is particularly skilled in the area of remote satellite observance and has logged hundreds of hours flying observational drones.
It was always assumed by the other team members that Specialist Ovix was placed with the team due only to her ability to sleep with high ranking officials. An abysmal soldier with a poor work effort and limited dedication to the Tekrian cause, she is definitely looked upon with a slight degree of loathing. Her primary skills include primping in front of the mirror, asking idiotic questions, and attempting to look busy during service hours.
Though she loathes her greatly, Specialist First Class Tavika has a lot more in common with Ovix than she would like to admit. She too spends her days attempting to seem busy. Her only redeemable skill is being able to repair the base's complex neural-server network. When things are functioning smoothly, she spends the majority of her time sleeping and swilling her secret stash of warm Orkavian brandy.
Officer Skrimm, or "That Pointy Eared Fucker" as his squad members refer to him (as a term of endearment, he often tells himself) is the Military Police Attache to Squad 42. Due to their long periods of seclusion at their outpost, civil unrest and mental disturbances can become a problem. A such, it is Skrimm's job to maintain peace and order so that the operation can continue to run smoothly. Skrimm has a reputation for being highly allergic to smiling, sunshine, fun, and fluffy baby animals. When he drinks, he generally drinks alone and that isn't by choice.
