There was always that distinctive smell, he reflected. The College of Computing bathrooms always smelled like that -- it was either cleaning chemicals or deodorizer, or both.
Then it hit him. Bubblegum. They smelled vaguely of bubblegum? He pondered. It might not exactly be a bubblegum smell, but bubblegum is rather interesting. You have mint-flavored chewing gum and peppermint-flavored chewing gum and bubblegum-flavored ice cream, but what does bubblegum itself taste like? What smell does it borrow? Is that strange pink flavor one that lay dormant for millenia, unique, hiding?
Ah well, he thought. He needed a stiff drink and a cold upper lip.
Or was it a cold drink and a stiff upper lip.
Life was like that, he reflected.
