Hakuba's voice rang out again, a hard and somewhat sharp tone that Aoko wasn't quite familiar with, "If you lay one finger on Aoko-kun--"
"Bit late for that, really, tantei-san," said that voice that sounded so much like Kaito's--hadn't it been Kaito? That voice laughed at the furious detective who said nothing but still somehow let the other young man know his feelings on the matter. "Relax, tantei-san, it was just a back-scrub--"
"Leave her be, Arsène," said Hakuba flatly, not caring for distinctions. "You've had your laugh, now please take your ill-timing sense of humor out of this room."
Silence reigned in the room for a long moment. Aoko took this time to crouch down in the shower and swtch off the water. Dripping wet and body shivering from the cooling air and from the surprise and shock from this entire scene, she listened intently for the sounds signaling the departure of this person named Arsène.
All remained silent.
Then that voice asked in a dull and unamused manner, "You think you can protect her from the truth, tantei-san?"
"I can protect her from you," stated Hakuba firmly.
A hard laugh came then. "Tantei-san, you're still unsure as to my true nature and my true motives. You hardly even know how to protect yourself. How can you hope to protect this girl?"
Another pause came following that particularly cruel question.
Arsène then gave a more pleasant laugh, sounding so much like Kaito that Aoko was left wondering just what was going on. "Like I said, tantei-san, you can relax," said the young man in a soothing manner. "I couldn't do harm to Aoko if I tried. He certainly wouldn't allow it, especially when I'm awake."
Hakuba gave no response.
Instead, Aoko found the shower curtains parting a bit to show a bathing robe being offered by the same hand that had touched her.
When did he move to get it? was the only though in her head as she numbly took the robe and quickly covered herself. When she felt more secure in being clothed--at least somewhat--once more, Aoko then began to push aside the curtain--
"You should know better than anyone, tantei-san, that Kaito would never allow me to harm Aoko."
