On my motorcycle ride home last night, I thought I'd take a sniff at a cul-de-sac near our house. I've been doing the odd bit of a look for houses, in case we ever decide to buy, and saw a nice area with a vacant lot online, and thought "Why don't I drive by there and see what it's like?"

Turns out this cul-de-sac is all of about 280 m/300 yds. Read more... )

You should look into an AMA membership. You get roadside assistance, a quarterly magazine, discounts on everything at bikebandit.com, and you're helping out a group working for you as a motorcyclist.

You get roadside assistance with an AMA membership? Like, jump a dead battery?

I tried to join AAA last year - and I only own a bike. It was $100+ for the membership... and another +$40 because I have a "recreational vehicle". It's my only set of wheels, and I ride 'em year-round, so I told them no thanks, and just paid for the jump outta pocket.

The service is called MoTow, and whether or not you get it free with membership depends on the membership you get. But the extra $35/year is entirely worth it, especially in areas where AAA hangs up on you if you try to call in service on a motorcycle.

The cheapest membership ($39) comes with the roadside assistance provided you select auto-renew.

Yeah, we get AAA (well, CAA back in Canuckistan) as a matter of course, and adding on the motorcycle coverage wasn't that much.

I may still join the AMA....
