So, I flew yesterday, on the day of the big
fluids-on-a-plane fiasco. The security people at the Austin airport pretty clearly thought the entire thing was kind of silly. They didn't make sure that the Nalgene bottle in my backpack was empty, and I saw people walking onto the plane obviously carrying drinks. I think their take on it was similar to mine -- this is silly, and probably not going to last. If it sticks, in time they'll be beaten into being hard-assed about it, but if the pathological tinpot dictator personality types that seem to end up running security at most airports aren't salivating at the opportunity to boss people around and make them jump, I just don't think that this newest 'crisis' is very convincing to most people.
