Really, really scary.
As decidedly irreligious as I am, I have to admit that the more I hear about what's going on in Europe these days, the more tempted I am to start regarding America's wealth of xenophobic Christian fundies as a mixed blessing**. And that is saying a lot - metric fuckloads. I just hope that the critical mass point for adequate response*** to this situation doesn't turn out to be beyond the realm of the feasibly containable.
The Koran - it's not quite as bad as the Torah, but people actually take it seriously.
* - Ok, the site has a bunch of ads for the US armed forces all over, so I'm having second thoughts. Though all I've looked at so far is a half dozen articles by this particular columnist, and she seems pretty reasonable so far. Both sources came up from Google News. Scrutinize them now, if you want.
** - Temptation resisted. Hostility probably does more to radicalize than it does to deter. And damn it, I hate fundies.
*** - Mandatory integration, especially in education; equal treatment under the law; free speech, even for actual and potential targets of violence; stuff like that. And for good measure, we could own up to our corporate globalization oil fuck fest so they hear about it from us before they hear about it from Islamists.
(God, I'm tired now. This is exhausting to think about.)
