I went on a St John Ambulance first aid course today because I am an appointed first aid person at work. It was a very interesting course and I would recommend that everyone should learn first aid - it should definitely be compulsory in all schools for a start. I learnt these things:

  • What to do ( Read more... )

Is there anything dangerous around you? Can you hear me? Can you open your eyes please? Is your airway clear? Are you breathing?

Does person-origami and rolls Mole over...

Talks to Mole about things until the ambulance arrives... ;-)

Ah, you have real injury of wrongness. Washes with clean water, applies dressing and pressure, possibly using a second dressing, if the bleeding doesn't stop takes them off and reapplies htem, puts patient into appropriate position to minimise bleeding, waits for ambulance to arrive.

A lot the stuff seems to involve waiting for ambulances. Perhaps they could be permanently circulating or perhaps speculatively picking people up in case they are waiting for ambulances. That would save time but be more confusing.
