First aid course

I went on a St John Ambulance first aid course today because I am an appointed first aid person at work. It was a very interesting course and I would recommend that everyone should learn first aid - it should definitely be compulsory in all schools for a start. I learnt these things:
  • Some legislation
  • What should be in a first aid kit
  • What to do if called to an incident (Assess, Make safe, Emergency aid, Get help, Report)
  • How to do emergency aid (DRAB - Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing)
  • How to put someone in the recovery position
  • How to deal with someone who is choking
  • How to recognise whether someone is in shock and how to deal with it
  • How to deal with severe bleeding
  • How to put on dressings and bandages
  • How to do CPR
Yay, now I can mend people if they get broken. :-) ...and I have a new watch now (I finally got the strap adjusted to my size). It is shiny and it tells the time. :-)
