The scene: Last night, The Summer Shack. My MOM and DAD are taking me and the FAM out to dinner for my birthday. Being the birthday girl, I have no qualms about ordering the lobster. First of all, happy birthday. :) Second, lobsters was one of the first things I dropped off my list of "willing to eat" in my pre-vegetarian days. The whole boiling them alive thing was too much to bear.

Thanks!

I hear you on the boiling thing. I can never be in the room when my dad makes lobster - I am such a hypocritical carnivore! But dad always assures me that he puts the lobsters into a "trance" before boiling by running water over their tummies. He says it "knocks them out." have no proof of the validity of his claims, but it did make me feel a little better. ;)

My birthday is this week! But I doubt anyone will be taking me out for a lobster dinner!

Speaking of...one of my favorite scenes is in Annie Hall when they are trying to cook the lobsters and chasing them around the kitchen.

It is an untimely death they must meet, but they taste so good dipped in butter I'm willing to overlook that part ;)

Happy birth-week! I was actually expecting a normal dinner at home, so that was a nice surprise.

That is a good scene. Almost as good as the scene in the book/movie "Julie and Julia" where the blogger-turned-cook is trying to kill her first lobster. There's a lot of guilt involved. ;)
