Six weeks after the aforementioned (months ago, I know) successful AS9100 audit, I was laid off. Totally out of the blue.
About the same time, Uber put a major crimp in the local taxi business. (Buns is a cabbie, and don't get me started on Uber's lack of insurance or driving record checks. Etc.)
A couple of months later, my dad quit chemo because it was killing him faster than the cancer would if it started growing again. (Seriously. Cellulitis so bad he spent days in an hermetically sealed room in hospital while they tried to get his immune system to function enough that the medication could even start to work.)

I am gainfully employed; salaried, yes, but I'm making about as much as I was before including all the overtime and rarely have to work more than 40 hours/week. Plus, I REALLY like the company. I am the Quality Department all by myself, but the areas they need help are absolutely the stuff I'm good at, and they're actually serious about getting better. (Did I mention that it's a really awesome place to work?)
My dad's tumor has not grown any since he quit chemo.
The taxi business is still in the crapper, but a couple of driving positions have opened up at my company, so Buns is going to apply and has a pretty good chance of getting hired.
Two out of three ain't bad, and it could be so SO much worse...
