Preparing for the Apocalypse

Jun 24, 2007 16:17

So
kelmendi and I have been busy bees, preparing for the end of the world.  Yesterday, I made a pair of pants,
kelmendi made a dress, and we opened up a bottle of homemade mostly organic ginger ale.  Because when the end of the world comes, it's important to look good and stay hydrated with refreshing beverages.

We were actually quite excited at the craftiness of it all.  There is nothing more satisfying than doing a project for which there are immediate results.  It was very neat relearning how to sew and now that I've figured out how to wind my bobbins, the sky is the limit!

I'm going to be making another two pairs of pants so that I will have a set of comfy summer pants for teaching  (which starts in a week and two days...oy.  I have a lot of work to do preparing lecturesand recently got inspired to write a paper about feminist bioethics and health care resource allocation for a new international journal in bioethics.  Hopefully this will bear some fruit and will help flesh out the curriculum vita. (the fancy academic way of talking about the resume)

It is very very very very warm and humid right now, with severe thunderstorms just about every night.  It's kind of cool...but the threat of tornados always creeps me out.  And I now know why Winnipegers are the highest consumers of Slushies per capita  (according to my older sister).  Also, mosquitoes and Winnipeg?  Never overexagerated.  I've never stayed here for the mosquito season, always haring off to Halifax do do work on my dissertation, defend dissertation, get married, etc etc, so I never had to experience mosquito season.  It sucks!  I've got huge bites everywhere, and I can't avoid it as the dog HAS to go out during times when they are most prolific...early morning and late evening.  I'm against mosquito fogging on principle, but in practice, I can totally see the attraction.

In non-work related writing, my muse has decided to join the cracktastic fandom of Stargate Atlantis and is insisting on breaking new ground for me....MPREG....yikes!
