Long Island

I opted out of a mascot gig at Bergen Community College in Paramus on Sunday because I found out that the restroom was going to be our changing room. That is not pleasant, to say the least.

So instead, I went out to Long Island. In contrast to Saturday's rain, it was a good day to be outside. Sunny and 63°F or so. I spent most of the day and an hour after dusk in Yaphank. Haven't been out that way in a long time so there were lots of geocaches to do in and around that town. Better yet, public areas seem to be cleaner out there. Didn't see any litter at all on the Carmens Creek Trail and not much at Southaven Park. I also saw deer, wild turkey, and chickens while hiking.

Dinner was in Flushing Chinatown. Explored the upscale Queens Crossing mall again. They changed the art on the 4th floor. It's now ostrich-themed. The building is surreal. There is an unfinished rear section with its own elevators. Not all floors connect to the glitzy front section, so if you hop off the rear elevator on the wrong floor, you'll be in a maze of whitewashed corridors with rows of blank doors like something out of the Matrix. I also suspect but cannot confirm wi-fi net access. There were lots of people with notebook computers in the street-level cafe.
