Recruitment Service (Clint!Fic, marvel cineverse + mission impossible crossover)

Jun 18, 2012 20:58

Fandoms: Marvel Cineverse, Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Characters: Clint Barton/Hawkeye, mentions of Agent Coulson, Black Widow, Ethan Hunt, Jane Carter + other members of both canons
Rating: R (for swearing)
Disclaimer: I don't own either. Obviously.
Summary: A simple recruiting operation, they said.

Glamorous, they said.

When Clint was 8, the ringmaster threw him out of his nest, supposedly to teach him a new trick. Pity all that happened was Clint broke his ankle and ended up missing 8 shows. 8 wages and 8 opportunities to get away were lost. But at least it made the ringmaster realise that the hawk well and truly belonged in his nest. Still, he’s not that little kid anymore and when he was assigned to infiltrate the IMF (“Agent Carter could be a promising recruit” Coulson had briefed him. “What about Hunt?” “Trust me. We’ve tried.”), he didn’t protest.
A simple recruiting operation, they said.

Glamorous, they said.

They obviously didn’t foresee the fact that this mission (that he had no fucking choice but to except. Do any of them?) would involve him dropping 25 feet and hoping that magnets, fucking magnets, would keep him from dying, otherwise they would have told him before he started - wouldn’t they?

Goddamn SHIELD.

Tasha, on the other hand, would thrive on this mission and, okay, he wasn’t going to lie, he could get used to the suits. But he’d always been more comfortable in a long range sniper’s nest than getting down and dirty with pistols (thank God for those training sessions). She was made for this - seductions and intrigue and discreetly taking out the enemy, but he was to join up with Carter and the team in Russia and the motherland always does...weird things to her, so she was never going to be joining him on this one.  Luckily, Clint is nothing if not a professional; a mission is a mission, after all.

He’ll recommend they don’t recruit Carter, though. She’s too passionate - the death of Moreau proved that and SHIELD can’t deal with anymore emotionally compromised members (so that’s Stark, Banner, Rogers, Tasha and, let’s be honest here, himself. Leaving Coulson, Hill and Fury as uncompromised as ever - they’re the bosses for a reason, after all), but he’d help finish off the mission otherwise they might start asking questions (oh my God, imagine Hunt in the same room as Banner - all that fury and passion and instinct near the Hulk...no. SHIELD’s a secret for a reason). Hence the cover story - to be fair, he was in Croatia at the time, but Hunt’s wife isn’t dead. She got embroiled in some trouble with a new alien so they faked it. He does feel bad for lying to Hunt about it, though. That part was genuine.

Fucking magnets.

How is he meant to do this anyway? He can see perfectly clearly what awaits him down in the shaft - a fan that can start spinning at any minute and the blinking rover-device-thing just beneath it that is roughly the size of a child’s skateboard. That shouldn’t be able to support half his torso, never mind keep him five feet above ground. He’s not Hunt - he can’t just...fling himself off a building and hope for the best. Snipers are cautious; they’re precise, like hawks which are supposed to stay in their nests, goddamnit and all he can think as he climbs into the shaft is fuck this mission.

Next time, Tasha can interview them.
