"We will choose to act confidently in pursuing the enemies of freedom, or retreat from our duties in the hope of an easier life."
Why is this the choice? Bush is making this out like people who are against the war want to go home and wait to see what happens. I hate to say this, but right now we are in Iraq, waiting to see what happens. Is the idea of coming up with an actual plan so absurd that we won't even discuss it? There are a few things that need to be done and are just not. The biggest two in my opinion is the shady business practices going on all over the region, by AMERICAN companies, and building a real coalition.
What is it going to take to protect this region forever? I can't imagine ever seeing the Iraqi defense built up to a point where I would be comfortable leaving. I mean hell, if all the rebels in Iraq suddenly showed up in the States, I wouldn't be comfortable with the strength of our own defense. If we want to keep this place from going nuts, it needs to be protected constantly, while we try to get rid of this scum. In other words, all we need to do in order to leave Iraq is make sure there are no more Arab terrorists, at all, anywhere.
Or we can go back to the U.N.
Listen:
I am no fan of the U.N. But it is a monster we need. If you don't think we need the U.N., read anything about Iraq. I am not by any means saying that if we go to the U.N., they will take on the burden and everything will be alright. I'm saying that, seeing as it's one of our only resources right now, this should have almost our complete focus. We can't do this forever, nor can we just drop it and go. It is in the interest of the world that Iraq does not become yet another terrorist nation. We are beyond the point where we can hope that history will show us as the heroes of Iraq. It's not about that anymore. Not it's about security. Plain and simple.
And we need all the help we can get.
