Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Hope you all had a great holiday season. Got back from Ohio last Friday and have been doing the social thing this weekend. Things are slowing down today. Taking it easy. Harry had to work yesterday and today, but we still managed to make it to a New Year's party last night. We had a great time but we're both wiped today.

Had a nice time with the family last week. I usually start climbing the walls the day after Xmas, but not this year. Probably because I was working on my folks' bar in the rec room. They replaced some water-damaged walls and repainted the rec room, but the old bar my Dad built in the 50's needed some sprucing up. I replaced the surface paneling with some bead board and nice moldings. It's up to them to paint it--I only had time to prime. That kept me occupied.

I met Harry's Dad the Saturday before Christmas. The three of us met for lunch. It went swimmingly well. We got a long great and he thanked me after I left the two of them. It was a heartfelt thank you, but Harry didn't hear it and we're still trying to figure out what his Dad meant.

I got me my Schnitzel too. My Mom's family gets together for at The Schnitzel Haus. All Schnitzel. All the time. Schnitzel, saurkraut balls, and german beer. I was a happy man.

Harry and I had our Christmas on Saturday night. It was wonderful, as it always is--I gave us rings. Commitment, engagement, not sure of the proper word. I've been thinking about this for some time. We've been together for six years. We met at Christmas time, so it seemed fitting. He was completely surprised. He usually makes ring jokes about this time, but he really was kidding and didn't expect that I'd actually do this. I hid his ring on top of a Lebkuchen, a type of german spice cookie that we make. I hade several cookies on his plate, with a butter cookie hiding the ring. He ate all thge other cookies before getting to the one with the hidden ring. I was trying to keep calm and low key about it, but it took him a long time to get to the ring. But it was worth it.

It was a great holiday. I have a little post-holiday let down--and I'm NOT looking forward to work. This month is going to be rough. But I'm holding on to some holiday spirit.. I do stretch it out a bit. I tend to keep the decorations up at least through Twelfth Night--we usually do something fun that day. I may keep the house decorated longer though..this year, my sister and brother-in-law will be bringing my nephew back to Rochester for school the weekend of the 12th, and they want to see the house all gussied up, so I think the stuff stays up. Plus, I really don't want to have to deal with this until later in the month anyhow. My evenings will be spent working on the grant (shudder) that's due in two weeks.

Outta here...Harry is due back soon--and I have a dog to walk and a pork roast to think about.
