The
Lowes Jersey theater (a restored 1930s-era "cinema palace") always has a good Halloween program, and this year it's better than ever:

"
The Body Snatcher" is one of my favorite -- if not my absolute favorite -- Boris Karloff movies. Based on a story by Robert Louis Stevenson, and featuring Karloff at his most unctuous and repulsive, "The Body Snatcher" is a terror treat from Hollywood veterans Val Lewton (producer of other fright classics like "The Cat People", "Bedlam" (also starring Karloff), "The Demon", and "I Walked with a Zombie") and Robert Wise (whose eclectic career included films such as "The Sound of Music", "West Side Story" and "Star Trek The Motion Picture" as well as horror classics like "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "The Haunting").
As if that weren't enough to get excited about, the Lowe's Jersey's in-house organ has now been fully-restored and will provide live accompaniment to the Lon Chaney 1925 masterpiece "The Phantom of the Opera". And it's Sarabeth's birthday.
