Today was an alright day for me until around 3 pm this afternoon when I took some time from cleaning and working on my son's project to check my email. My mom left to get my middle son from school, and I received a shock.
While reading my email, I was notified that another friend of mine had passed away. He had been in the hospital and now he is gone. For me, this comes even more as a shock because he was so vibrant and full of life.
What makes this even harder for me was I had to tell my older 2 children that someone else they knew had passed away. My middle child accepted the news with sadness in his voice. But, when I told my oldest son, he had a reaction I wasn't expecting.
My oldest son's face fell, and then he quickly walked to his room. As he walked away, he stated that he had had enough of death to last him the rest of his life. This may sound odd for a almost 14 year-old to say this, but I understand where he is coming from.
Since December, we have known of at least 5 friends or adopted family that have died. (Two of the friends that we lost were within the last 2 weeks alone!) We also know of at least 2 friends that have lost someone close to them as well. So, death has been an ever-present occurence in our lives.
Honestly, I know how he feels. I have dealt with death since I wasn't much older than him. And, even now, at my age, it hasn't gotten any easier to deal with losing friends and loved ones. I just wish I knew the words to say to him to help him understand and deal with the emotions that I know he is going through.
I think that the answer will come to me soon. At least I can always pray for guidance in helping him deal as I learn to deal as well.
friends,
family,
death
