My first week:
So the basic goings on. We got a patch from the developers on Tuesday. We put it on one machine did some quick tests and decided that we could put it on all machines. We re-image and test the machines until today. This morning we get a call to test a specific situation because it failed in the tests some other people were doing (they were in a Top Secret lab and I and the other people with me don't have that clearance yet). So I test that and it fails. Soon after we get another call to tell us to stop all of our tests. Turns out the patch that we installed didn't actually install anything. So this afternoon we got to re-image and patch all of our systems again. We calculated it and we conservatively wasted 78 man hours on a bad patch.
I liking my job so far. I don't feel like I'm working that hard and I think I've picked up on how to do a lot of the stuff pretty quickly. I've been going in between 7:30 and 8 and leaving about 3:30 and 4. I have a little cubicle with a couple of computers and various other things that I'm never at. I wear jeans and a shirt everyday and pretty much sit around in a lab and work on things just like I did in school. One thing that kind of sucks is that I probably won't be on the team that I'm on for very long since they already have more people than they really should.
Also my boss used the phrase "flip a bit" today (in the sense that someone would go crazy, not technically flipping a bit), which I thought was totally hilarious.
