My first day at work:
I arrive at 8:30 because no one told me when to show up and that's a reasonable time. I'm late but it's not a big deal. I finish all my paperwork (of which there was at least one fuck-ton, probably closer to two), get my picture taken, fingerprinted (I also got a fingerprint put into the computer for access to classified areas), and go to lunch about 12. I go over to my office building to see that the receptionist is gone, since I don't know who I'm supposed to see, I wait. About 1:20 she shows up and shows me my mentor. He shows me me cube and some documents to read over. I try to log in to my computer only to find that it's not on the domain, so I read over the things he printed out. After that I find my mentor and he has me log on to one of the test lab PCs and I read around on the intranet for the rest of the day. At some point in there I see an IT guy and get him to fix my computer. He does this in a fairly timely fashion and I go to my cube to finsih out my day by doing absolutely nothing. I should mention at this point I still have not met my manager face to face. He was on vacation for my interview, and he was at jury duty today.
I leave at about 5:30 only to get to my car and find that it won't shift out of park. Great, I work on it for about 15-30 minutes but to no avail. I call my parents and they say to call Chris to see if we can rock the car out of the bind that the transmission is possibly in (I was parked on a hill). He and Steph drive up from San Marcos but we still can't get the thing out. I call GEICO and they send a tow truck. He takes the car to some shop close to my house that I really need to call in the morning. After dealing with that we come to my place, I change, and we get some food at subway. Then we make our way to Giddings to get the truck from my parents so I can actually go to work. I finally made it home at midnight.
Basically my day kind of sucked, and Chris is pretty awesome for coming to bail me out (though he did sort of owe me because I did pretty much the same thing Wednesday, I'm sure he would have done it anyway though). Hopefully I won't be too tired tomorrow morning so I can get up and be at work by 8. If I skip lunch that means I can leave at 4, which is really great. I'll post more about work later but right now I reall need to go to bed. If you're interested in what I'll be working on for at least the next couple of weeks just read this page:
