Vegan Day 3

Aug 28, 2010 23:59

Saturdays' in our house mean one of three things. We cook a hearty egg based breakfast, we get bagels OR we go out for the common city activity of weekend brunch.

As I had to consider what M. was going to eat this morning, I was feeling a little stuck on what to suggest as part of the vegan week. We did discover that MOST bagels are in fact vegan, and soy cream cheese is readily available. Still, I was in the mood for hot food.

My fantastic and wonderful husband suggested we try the vegan cafe at the other end of the 'hood that we never choose because it is a hike to get to. It took all the work out of figuring out what to make. We had breakfast burritos made with a seasoned tofu scramble meant to approximate eggs. It was decent, filling and left us satisfied. Each of our meals, though slightly different had some fake meat product a side salad and we ordered crispy plantains and hash browns.

Least you think I'm completely crunchy granola-I also had an amazing "Mojito" that was made with Sake, champagne lime, and mint.

Dinner-we hiked to Bay Ridge for falafel. We had great memories of a little corner place that opened shortly before we moved from our first apartment. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our past experience, BUT it was vegan, cheap and easy.
