I'm studying for my standardized test that I'm taking on July 15th. The most frustrating thing about standardized tests is that the medicine doesn't always match up with real life.

I had a review question that described a patient who was having a sinus infection and asked what the treatment was. I remembered that in clinic, every single doctor I was with always treatment sinusitis with an antibiotic. According to the question, the most common cause of sinusitis is viral (true) and the treatment is "supportive" (translation: do nothing, give antihistamines, etc).

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Now, I understand that the most common cause of sinus infection is viral and there is nothing you can really do for a virus. I also understand that the reason why doctors just treat all sinusitis cases with antibiotics is because most patients will have a hissy fit if they don't feel like the doctor is treating them (giving them medicine). I just dislike the disconnect because I have to have two funds of knowledge going on.
